Tracking Help Use

I am wondering what companies use to keep track of help usage, allow for user feedback, track hits to topics, and the like. I've read on this forum that Pulse is not a priority for MadCap, so I don't want to get involved into another time-intensive project that doesn't yield results.

Looking for ...

style for image map popups

I've created an image map that works well. However, I want a style for the popup window that opens when I click on the image that differs from the regular topic style. Just can't figure out how to do it.

Ideas?

Re: image maps not building correctly

I've been researching image maps today and learning lots about how to do it in html outside of Flare, which has helped.

However, one remaining problem is that the hot spots don't show up where they are supposed to. They are shifted over to the right. I've attached a screen shot to show how the hot ...

image maps not building correctly

I'm using Flare 10 and I'm new to image maps!

I've added a shape to the image map and set its properties, but when I build the help, I can't see the shape. In addition, I DO get an alt-text popup with the correct text in it when I mouse over the image, but it's over the wrong part of the image ...

Text Editor - how do I tell Flare to keep my formatting

Good Morning,

I work in the Text Editor a lot. I would like it to maintain the spacing, line breaks and so forth within that window. I'm not talking about extra spacing that is removed by html. I'm talking about indented structure, line breaks and so forth. It seems that whenever I leave that ...

Hi Ed,

Thanks for your response. It is based in Boston, so our needs don't coincide.

contract job in the Boston area

Hi all,

I'm looking for a Flare-fluent technical writer in the Boston area for a 3-month contract. Posting here because I've not had luck other places.

Suggestions welcome!

Proper operation of Next and Previous

Wondering if anyone knows exactly how the Next and Previous buttons are supposed to work. I'm building HTML5 output and when I click on the next button, I get the next topic in the TOC, which is what I expect. But the topic name isn't highlighted in the TOC in the left nav. Is it possible to have ...

search works locally, but is inconsistent on published site

Here is my trouble: I have created a help system on my local computer. When I search for pretty much anything, search is fast and consistent. However, once the help is moved to a server, the search is inconsistent. When it doesn't work, I see the spinning graphic like it's working, but not ready yet ...

Several layers of pop-ups generates blank window

I'm working on an HTML5 help system. I've created hyperlinks from one topic to another and I've set the Target Frame to Pop-up Window. I'm running into several problems:

The size of the pop-up window is large and not resizeable in the output. Only about a quarter of the window contains text and ...

Re: How to turn off "There are new updates available..."

This is a peer support forum, even the MVPs are just normal users and not Madcap employees.

Support, like Rob, look in from time to time, but usually you are tapping into user experience! If you need someone from Madcap to answer you will need to contact support directly. :)

Steve,

Of course. I ...

Re: How to turn off "There are new updates available..."

My mistake. I thought I had just updated, but there was another update 8/15/14, which I just installed today.

Now the message is gone.

Phew.

Re: How to turn off "There are new updates available..."

Does no one at Flare know how to shut this message off?

I just updated, but I continue to get the message. When I look at Help > About, it reports version 10.2.0 July 2, 2014.

How do I make it stop?

When I pull the text in from Word, I lose the indents (created with spaces because it's code). How do I keep the indent structure created with spaces?

Thanks for the suggestions. I had thought about variables, too, but don't think they'll work in these cases.

I'll look into the Advanced settings. I think that's the ticket!

Re: Multiple Condition Tags

Thanks to all for your quick responses.

I know that I have to use conditions for the two different publishing targets: one is a PDF and the other is online help. That's fairly easy because most of the content is the same. I've created some front matter pages that I want in the PDF but not in the ...

Multiple Condition Tags

I am using conditional text to differentiate between different software builds and publishing platforms.

What is the expected outcome if I use more than one tag? Is it an AND or OR situation? Does the content being tagged have to satisfy one or both (or all) conditions?

Adding Google Analytics script to existing files

Does anyone know how to add the code for Google Analytics (I have the code) to each of the files in my existing project. I understand that if I had known I was going to add GA script to my files, I could have put it in a template file, but at this point in the game, I have already created my files ...

Multiple Versions of Same Product

Hi all,

I am working on a help project that will have different numbered versions, for example version 1.0, 2.0, and so on. Within each numbered version, there will also be different levels of help available, depending on the access rights of the user (regular user, admin, sysadmin, and so on ...
