Flare 12 64 Bit version Slow?

Yay! I've been screaming for a 64 bit version for a year or two. Now that I have it, Flare ran very slowly on first use right after install. Cursor lagging, 10 - 15 second delays. So, I thought it was Windows 10 Enterprise.

THE SOLUTION: I ran the Compatibility Troubleshooter on the Compatibility ...

Re: Is any one perturbed about Flare still a 32bit app?

Yay for 64 bitness. Just installed Flare 12. Now for testing and seeing...

Found that the initial install of Flare 12 64 bit ran really slowly, out of the box install, first run.

For Windows 10 Enterprise, here's the solution:

1. Open the properties dialog for the Flare 12 desktop icon.

Foot Shootin' with Flare's Analyzer

Many a year ago, I'd go huntin' with my 6th cousin Leroy. He's from South Louisiana, Houma. I'm was from North Louisiana, Baton Rouge. We took the pirogue down the bayou to an open marsh and look for gator ducks. Leroy had the habit of excitement, and a lot of it too when dem gator ducks take off ...

Re: Wildcards and regular expressions support in Flare 7

I was able to figure out how the Wildcard for source code Search Replace Works: for example to find and remove this string,

<MadCap:xref class="HeadingLink" href="#02commands_cws_2118762814_107311">

Use this collection of characters from the string with the * wildcard.

<MadCap:xref *c*="*" href ...

Re: Multiple Selectors in a tag

Thanks for the response. To be sure, I use only notepad ++ for CSS editing. Never been a user of McF's style editor. This is one of several issues I have with Flare (all the crashes and exceptions aside.) Being a 32-bit app is chief among them. A project operates only in a 2.n GB memory space, which ...

Multiple Selectors in a tag

Does Flare support multiple selectors in a class, e.g., <p class="body break-before"></p> ?

OK. I remembered a work around <p class="body" id="break-before"></p> got the results I wanted. But still should be able to use and WYSIWYG the multiple selector method. :flare:

Re: Recommendations on managing revision history

Flare is not a project management tool. Never intended to be. You are asking an apple to be an orange. Both grow on trees, are fruit of some sort, and are food. But they are different in complex ways. You are asking for trouble trying to force Flare into some role it is not intended to do. Manage ...

No, #Zerozeddy, it's not just you. Still this issue is propagated from Flare version to Flare version. I've stopped contacting support but still send the Crash Reports. It's now 2016, 10 years since the first post here. Support's response is delete some stuff and update, uninstall, reinstall .NET to ...

Re: Is any one perturbed about Flare still a 32bit app?

Still in all, I'm prompted to write, MadCap's competitors, the ones who dare not speak their names, have 64 bit versions. Whining about 64 bit implications is, well, falling on deaf ears. Back in the day, numerous software companies failed because they couldn't complete a 16 bit to 32 bit port ...

Re: Using an external Search

I've looked at Google Custom Search before, and that is quite easy to integrate in a project.

If you are using Flare 11, you can hide the existing search box. If you use the top nav skin, you can hide the search box using styles - MadCap does this on the Home page in its top navigation template ...

Re: Border around graphics

On a high level, I agree with Greg.

The actual tasks could require search / replace of the img tag to include a class=" " statement.

For example,

In your CSS file, add a selector ".graphic-border-1px"

.graphic-border-1px
{
border: 1px solid black;
}

Add positioning statements such as float and ...

Here is the current issue and solution.

So I worked backward on solving the Errors listed in Warnings.

List of Proxy for List of Tables and Figures (online and PDF

Here's what I discovered about controlling List of Proxy elements that are tied to captions tags and p tags for online and PDF.

Re: WebHelp page error

I've run into javascript and jQuery issues on webservers.

Check your conditional text settings to ensure everything is publishing.
Delete the webhelp from the webserver COMPLETELY.
If you compile the TOC separately, ensure it's url is locgical instead of absolute.

Re: Ragged Leader lines in TOC

This has to do with mc-leader-offset. You could try in your print media css section:

p.TOC1
{
mc-leader-offset: 5px;
}
p.TOC2
{
mc-leader-offset: 5px;
}

and so on...

I output a version of Help to HTML5.

Is there a way to comment out, jQuery from HTML output? or to specify a desired version without having to hack the csh.js file?

I discovered that Under WebHelpSetup if the nav pane width is ANYTHING less than "1" the default of width of 200 is issued. Perhaps it would be useful to request a "destroy nav pane" call.

Re: span.class vs. local formatting

We were told to always use the span.class setting for bold text. Well, our style of writing involves bolding a lot of words - sometimes two or three a sentence.

What would be the harm in just using the Ctrl + B for these in-text words? Why is it available if they don't want us to use it?
