Re: Flare 9.1 - Controlled Language/Simplified Technical English
Ironic, I sent an email to MadCap this AM, because I couldn't find anything on this myself. If I find out anything, I'll let you know.

Re: LaTeX to Flare, Equations and MathML
I think that in order to do the import from LaTeX to Design Science, you need the full blown version of MathType. I don't think you can do it with just the built-in version that MadCap is using. Here is an example of how I took a LaTeX formula from a webpage, pasted it into MathType, then did a Copy ...

Rotated Cells in a PDF?
Has anybody ever gotten the text in a PDF to rotate 90 degrees? I can do it for webhelp/HTML5 output, but can't seem to find the secret to making this happen in a PDF.

Re: Link from one PDF to another PDF?
Yes, this is possible. When you create links, you have to make sure you use the Named Destinations. Create your link in PDF1. Generate it, then put that PDF in your resources folder. When you want to put the link in from PDF2 to PDF1, make sure you select PDF1 in the dialog and you use the bookmark ...

Re: Inserted .eps too small in PDF
That's ironic, just this morning I was doing some tests in Flare 9 and inserted the same image as an SVG and as an EPS. The EPS was smaller and I wasn't sure what was going on.

Re: Missing "DITAMAP" File in DITA Target
The .ditamap is just a copy of the Flare TOC file, but setup with all the proper DITA links. Do you have a TOC in your Flare project? Also be aware that I've been doing some testing and the DITA output from Flare is 'iffy' at best. While it will show up as 'valid' DITA, it's really not the best ...

Re: Myriad Pro Cond font not working for print medium
Digging around a bit in several of the MS developer forums, here is what I gleaned.
The issue is that currently OpenType fonts that use PostScript outlines (Adobe) are not supported in GDI+ used by the .NET framework. The biggest issue as Nita points out, is Flare is built upon the .net framework ...

Re: Cross-project cross-references
What's your output? If it's PDF then in Flare 8 you can use Named Destinations and link from PDF to PDF. In theory you can do the same with WebHelp Plus (add your link, and since all the content resides on the same system you should be able to link to it). I have not use linking between documents in ...

Re: Auto sort TOC?
Ramon is right. The shear act of merging two TOCs means somebody has an idea about organization. They made a decision to take two TOCs and put them into a single one. While there are ways to sort via alphabetizing, that's probably not the best idea. Pick up any manual you have. They organize the ...

Re: CVS, PVCS, or Subversion with Flare?
I've recently requested support for GIT, which in my experience is leagues better than CVS (which is no longer being actively supported), and Subversion. I haven't used the MS tools to any great length, so I'm not sure how a good a comparison I can make with that versioning SW I can make. But ...

OK, but nothing to be done using Flare itself, then?
You can do a search and replace within Flare if you want. I just find it's much slower. It accepts regular expressions, so you can go that route if you want.

Kevin:
There are trivial differences between the two, and hyperlinks do work in a PDF. Obviously there are some reasons you would want to convert from one to another (updates is a biggie). However, unless there are some major reasons to change, then I'm not sure I would do so.

Re: Page numbers in PDF output not incrementing
Is this in the PDF output, or during a quick preview? I've found the quick preview does some odd things occasionally.
You may also want to simply go back to your templates and recreate your table in the footer. Reinserting the page number system variable may fix the issue.

To further complicate matters, I need the indent to be aligned with the text of the previous bullet point and not the bullet itself.

Re: Any way to Spell Check Glossary? Spell Check while typing..
The glossary itself is a text (XML) file. It has the extension .flglo and resides in your Project folder. I found it easier to open in a text editor (I use Notepad ++) that has a spell checker, then simply save that file back out again.

We're getting ready to kick off our first organizational meeting this week. I had a nice chat with Nita about some things that worked and didn't work for her group. That's going to help a lot. I noticed several of the main "characters" here on the board will be at the MadWorld in April. Nita will be ...

Yeah this is what I did initially, but the fact it doesnt work in FF is a total issue for us - I'm not sure about chrome or safari (dont have them to test).

One of the tricks that Webworks has is the ability to embed a PDF of each "chapter" automatically into the web help it builds. For example:

| Topic A
| Topic B
| Topic C

I recognize at least three of those issues being fixed as one's I opened (and I need to check on two others, but I also think I reported those). Glad to see that some of the issues I've reported have finally been fixed. For a while it seemed I had a lot of open tickets with little results.

Re: Transparent Background Color in Table?
Be very careful about what you think you are setting. ;) I opened a bug up a couple of months ago where I was manually setting various cell colors only to find that when I opened the topic up again those colors were gone. Turns out if you have a table style applied, that style is applied when the ...
