Re: Stack overflow at line 17
IE9 is the only browser/version allowed here. In my experience, the Flare v10 Stack Overflow issue prevented me from setting the background image for the skin. The workaround was to edit the skin in Flare 9. I know that's not at issue here, but thought the info might help someone. - John

Re: TFS - Can't Delete File. Locked By Another User
This recently happened to me. Here's the scoop, which may or may not apply:
I had left a file checked out in TFS. I had my laptop reimaged by IS and they gave it a new name. In TFS, though I am still me ;) , the checkout was mapped to the old machine name. I would think the same might also happen ...

Hi -
I was told recently by Support that the need for the parameter target=â€MCWebHelp†was fixed for Flare 8, and that we could remove this parameter from our code. "There should not be a difference in behavior."
If you search the Flare 8 or 9 Help for "MCWebHelp," I think you will see it's ...

Re: v9.1 and Visual SourceSafe Problem
I have the same problem, more or less...after upgrading to 9.1, I opened my project and got a popup error. It was cryptic but he wording led me to believe it had a problem resolving pending checkins (VSS/Windows 7). I looked at the Pending Checkins list and sure enough, it was empty (and should not ...

Hi, yes, you are not alone.
I also find the mouse degrades to the point where I need to click multiple times to gain focus/insert the cursor at some location in a topic file in the XML editor. A reboot does improve things. I have a Microsoft USB mouse. Haven't upgraded to Flare 9 yet (still on 8.x ...

Re: New Target to WORD: What am I missing here?
I hate days like that.
When you go to create the target, you can use the default template. In the Add File dialog, look for the "Output Type" drop down menu...that's where you select Word. But if you are saying that the New from Template window is blank, that's a whole nother problem, I'm afraid ...

Re: Finding conditional text
If you have Analyser, you can fairly easily create the report you need. Other than that, you should still be able to right-click the Reports folder in the Project view and create a Conditions report, and then select the report options.

Interesting, works for me. Thanks for posting.bneuha wrote:Thank you for the ideas. After some experimentation, the following syntax appears to work:

Re: mc-next-class
Hi -
mc-next-tag only works when you are going from one style to another, e.g. from Heading to Paragraph. As you found, it does not work if you are going from a class to its root style (e.g. from p.Note to p). There was no workaround when I addressed it with tech support.

Hi - it's on the Home tab, in the Paragraph section, last icon on the right. You can also select the text to be formatted and press the Tab key, which is what I do. - John

Re: Search returning incorrect topics
Sure, display the blank page in the Help output. If you are using IE, right click the topic pane, and select Properties (other browsers have similar options). Note the address/URL shown (you may need to click/drag over the path to scroll the entire URL), and then compare that to the URL displayed ...

You didn't indicate whether you tried running the Clean Project option before regenerating your output. I forget where this is in the version 7 menu bar. Certainly something to try!

Re: Navigation Pane: hide or show, and why?
I think it provides value for those instances where you choose to display Help without navigation, i.e. in a pop-up style window for context-sensitive Help topics. The 'show' button then allows users the option to search and explore elsewhere. Otherwise, meh.

Re: Importing RoboHelp 8 project into Flare - topics incomplete
Another thing you may try is to look at the source in RoboHelp at the point where the content disappears after import. If you see any similarities in two or more of the failed imports, you may be able to remove the offending code in RoboHelp and then reimport those topics. Just a thought.

I agree, it's a major usability issue for me. RoboHelp has long supported this functionality, and why not.

Re: Who's using Mimic?
I found that with Flash output, you can get a high resolution output. I'm embedding flash movies in togglers so when a user clicks a "Show me" link, the movie appears and immediately begins executing. But then there's the problem I mentioned above with loss of resolution during drag-and-drop ...

I am also using Mimic in a way identical to Nick. It's a nice way to put short 'show me' type videos into Help topics.

I chuckled when I read this. If I understand you correctly, the answer is most definitely no. What I do is float a big "DRAFT" watermark behind the topic, and it stays there until it's reviewed and approved. That's the only bit of subversion I use. Seems to work.

Issue rendering Full Motion Video frames in v8.x/IE9
Hi -
We have video content captured in Mimic and embedded in Flare topics as SWF. The company recently upgraded to IE9, and now any Full Motion Video (FMV) frames (a.k.a. drag and drop sequences) completely lose resolution during video playback in our WebHelp output and even in Preview mode. We ...

This sounds the same as the issue I encounter. Here's how I work around it, in more or less a single step, maybe it will work for you:
1. In the Content Explorer pod, right-click the file you want to change, and select Properties.
2. Clear the Read Only option, and click OK. The Check Out dialog ...

Ugh.
It can be had for $20.99 at Amazon (author gets paid). There is a cheaper eReader version there also. O'Reilly has PDF but it's more $$ than the hard copy at Amazon.

Re: Opinions on book "Beginning CSS"
I can recommend CSS The Missing Manual (2nd edition). It's well thought out, starts you at the beginning, and gets you up to speed pretty well, with concepts explained and lots of accompanying examples and exercises. And the exercises are available for download, so you don't find yourself typing in ...

Re: Flare 8 Niggles
I've logged a bug report about this, but has anyone else noticed that search terms aren't highlighted in topics in HTML5 outputs? I even created the span classes mentioned in the help, but no go. I tried it MadCap's Flare 8 online help, too, and don't see highlighting either. I'm wondering if the ...
