Re: Target "Output Folder" list — Clearing old entries?

Okay, so with some help from Andrew, I've found out how to clean up a variety of detritus Flare 6/7 stuffs into the Windows Registry.

But the more I think about Flare's use of the Registry in this way, the unhappier I become.

First, and per my preceding post to this thread, there needs to be some ...

Re: nonbreaking space for crossrefs?

I've read this thread and understand the "nowrap" circumvention. But as best I can tell, it is only a circumvention, not a true fix(?)

With that in mind, I have a question / thought.

WHY is it, insofar as Flare is more or less XHTML based, that it does not permit cross-references AND variables to ...

Andrew:

Thanks. I'm a registry editor from way back…

I think I'll also file an Enhancement Request to provide some user-friendlier way to maintain this list. (My current list has projects I haven't opened in more than one year…)

Target "Output Folder" list — Clearing old entries?

For Flare 7 (and 6, for that matter).

IF one has worked on a variety of Flare projects over time, how does one remove very old lists of path names retained by the "helpful" drop-down lists stored by the program?

For example:

1. In a Flare project, double-click a project Target to display its ...

Re: Flare to "ordinary" Web pages — XHTML, or…?

Ramon:

What would be non-standard XHTML in Flare output? I cannot see anything non-standard. Do you have an example?

Flare's XHTML target isn't exactly XHTML. Instead, it's meant to be read by the Madcap-provided reader as an XHTML book.

As such, the .htm files output as part of a Flare XHTML ...

Re: Flare to "ordinary" Web pages — XHTML, or…?

Lisa:

What I'm thinking of is NOT an online help system of any sort.

Instead, it's "plain vanilla" HTML or XHTML content of the sort displayed as part of an ordinary Web page. For example, the prose on this page, but NOT the stuff necessary to create the entire page layout:

Flare to "ordinary" Web pages — XHTML, or…?

I have a customer who wants three types of single-sourced outputs:

PDF and HTML-based online help
Web pages that are part of a larger corporate Web site

I have experience using Flare to produce the first two targets. I have no experience using Flare to produce the third.

My first thought ...

Lisa. Thanks! Or more accurately, thanks but RATS! I want it for print but was hoping CSS would be the way to go.

Okay, I*'ll work around the problem for now.

SOLVED: Single line, text left, text right — too darn hard?

I want to create a single-line heading that has some left-aligned text AND some right-aligned text. The longer I try to find my way through this, the worse the results get…

CSS for left-side graphic, right-side explanatory text?

I'm going 'round in circles but just can't figure out how to set up the CSS styles required to put a graphic on the left-side of a one-column page, and some explanatory text to the right of that graphic.

For a start, I definitely do NOT want a two-column layout.

What I have is a tall, relatively ...

RESOLVED: Unresolved link to file error -- but file "clean"?

How I fixed my own problem.

After deleting the files reported as the source of the error from the TOC did not change the error, I went to the project's directory of files and moved those two files out of the project entirely.

I then re-gen'ed the project. This time Flare reported not ...

RESOLVED -- link to file error -- but file "clean"?

Having cleaned up MANY "Unresolved link to file" errors, I have two errors I can't fix.

In Flare 6.1, I'm generating a Word target of a project I'm cleaning up. Where I've had "unresolved link to file" errors, I've used Find in Files to find the referenced files (they were removed from the project ...

Nope, I did an un-install then re-installed and it still doesn't work. Behavior is exactly the same: "Can't contact FrameMaker. Perhaps it's busy. Do you want to try again?"

Oh well, it's not a show stopper right now, merely an annoyance.

I'll add that having experimented with a few different techniques, I found that editing the XML was fastest.

I first use the WYSIWYG topic ...
