Re: Adjusting the pane size
Is it the text inside your tables that is the wrong width? If not, then I've completely misunderstood and everyone should just ignore the rest of this post.
If so, then you might find (but you'll have to test this) that the problem is caused by having a fixed width for a table. Rather than setting ...

Re: Auto-Number Text and Translations
Just a thought - would a snippet work in this situation? That way you would have "Note:" as a snippet to be translated just once. (I have no idea whether you can use a snippet as auto-number text but if you can, that might work.)

Re: Table borders displaying inconsistently in PDF
Rep well and truly beyond salvation, Steve! :D
For simple tables - I don't do complicated ones! - I have assorted table styles in the main stylesheet, things like table.KeepTogether (page-break-inside set to "avoid"), table.BreakBefore (yes, you guessed it, page-break-before set to "always") and ...

Re: Table borders displaying inconsistently in PDF
Keep asking, Steve, so at least the possibly silly newbie questions aren't all asked by me - and I'd really like to hear the views of the experts on this one.
I'm doing something similar to you though I haven't bothered with the table stylesheet because it was just one step too far, and as my ...

There is a Ctrl shortcut too, listed in the Shortcuts guide, but I tend to prefer menu keyboard shortcuts, they're much easier to remember once you've figured out what they are.

Re: Best practices for PRINT/SCREEN condition tags?
Again Lisa comes up with the goods.
I have 2 PDFs on different page sizes, so where I've needed a page break on one but not on the other I've inserted the same heading (almost always a heading) twice, and applied different styles to each of the headings, one is, for example, h2 ...

We had a similar question just a couple of days ago. I will share my own method, others may have better solutions.

Re: bracket display error
Search and replace in the source code rather than having to go through one by one. The last option in the Find and Replace box is "Find in source code", so if you check that box it should work. I'm sorry, I don't know the full unicode values for the brackets, find them at http://www.unicode.org ...

Re: p.note with left image and indented text
Word 2007 does drop caps, so could you fudge it by a global change before producing the Word docs to change your graphic to a drop cap - pick a letter and let people just assume that whenever they see a drop cap W for example, that's the Note icon. You'd have to have a play at producing a drop cap ...

Re: Simple Q re footnotes
Thanks Lisa. That wasn't quite the question I was asking but still worth knowing, and I've also figured out what I needed to fix. Somehow or other I'd applied a local style to the footnote text, which of course takes precedence over everything else. And, silly me, I'd made it 6pt, which it miniscule ...

Re: Simple Q re footnotes
Would anyone have any suggestions please? I currently have a footnote written in tiny, tiny text with a massive footnote marker in the body of the document, and I can't figure out how to fix it.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: bracket display error
Could you insert the full unicode value for the Chinese brackets in your XML code? That might "force" it to behave itself, and would be a quick and easy thing to test.

Re: Best way to get a bulleted list into a table
Ah. Yes, I have noticed that. Not quite sure how I managed to get round it, but I feel a bug report coming on.
I think it's been less of a problem for me because the other cell in the row contains a graphic that's fairly long, so most times the cell with the graphic in is longer than the cell with ...

Re: How to organise topics/images for two products using Flare
I have something similar if not exactly the same, in that I am producing a brief Quick Guide and a fuller User Guide for the same product. In my Contents section, I have one folder for topics that are "QG only", another folder for topics that are "UG only", and a third that I've called "Universal ...

Re: Invisible comments
I have a span class and a p class that I use to insert comments. I want to keep them in there until I've fixed them and intend deleting them as the problems are resolved. Haven't yet tried hiding them by changing them in the stylesheet - sounds like a really good thing to experiment with. I'll get ...

Simple Q re footnotes
I'm sure this simple question also has a simple answer, I just can't find it in the millions of pages of documentation.

Re: H1 Spacing Varies Based on TOC Chapter Break Settings?
Urgh, more manual pansying around, and over something that can appear ANYWHERE in the book, and it will change position when localised. It also makes a mockery of single-sourcing, as I want to use the same source for two different PDFs. I am NOT a happy camper. I'm SURE I didn't have the same kind ...

Back to this old chestnut - sorry.

Re: H1 Spacing Varies Based on TOC Chapter Break Settings?
To add to that problem, I have discovered (I think) that if you have a table with a bottom margin and padding (I don't know the difference so I apply them both!) then that padding/margin gets applied on the next page before the heading. That's a BIG pain in the rear end!
