Re: Modify Variable font?
Check that the @print medium in your stylesheet is modified, not just the @web medium. What does it look like if you generate a web output - is it the correct font there? You might need to look at the stylesheet in text editor, just to be sure.

Re: Best way to get a bulleted list into a table
Ah. Yes, I have noticed that. Not quite sure how I managed to get round it, but I feel a bug report coming on.
I think it's been less of a problem for me because the other cell in the row contains a graphic that's fairly long, so most times the cell with the graphic in is longer than the cell with ...

Re: Setting conditions for different views
Thats true. Just need to think of an icon that denotes "support". Bra - no.
Steve, I LOVE the way you're thinking! :D How about a picture of a crane? (No, not the bird, silly, the thing that lifts up heavy bits of metal on a building site, would that be a suitably recognisable icon?)

Re: Best way to get a bulleted list into a table
Lisa, do you HAVE to use complex selectors? I have several situations where I have bulleted lists inside table cells (as described above) and also where I have bulleted lists inside numbered lists, and I haven't used complex selectors. Might that cause me problems, or are complex selectors just a ...

Re: Flagging conditional text in outputs
There is a style called Madcap:conditionalText, so you could start your investigations there. If you add a background colour (or something!) to that style and then regenerate, that might help. I haven't done it myself but it's probably worth a go, and would be easy to put back again if that doesn't ...

Just a thought, but would it work with non-breaking spaces or does that defeat the purpose (even if it works)?

Oh yes, I remember, THAT was the fix! :D
I'm sure there was a more sensible fix though, something to do with mediums, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was. I do remember that the problem went away when I fiddled around with mediums. Hopefully someone with something helpful to add ...

Re: Best way to get a bulleted list into a table
I've got quite a few table cells with bullet lists in, as well as regular paragraphs.
For example,
Paragraph text
* bullet text
* bullet text
Paragraph text
To do this, I paste my paragraph (<p.BodyText>) into the table cell, type whatever I want to type, and apply list formatting in the normal ...

Re: Setting conditions for different views
If your Support manual includes everything the customer sees but with extra bits, how about having a little icon that identifies the extra paragraphs as "expert only"? Would that work for you? Alternatively how about applying <p.customer> to bits from the customer manual and <p.expert> to "expert ...

Re: Breaking tables between pages and repeating the header
This might be a completely silly suggestion (feel free to ignore it, or the lovely Lisa will tell me I've eaten too much stupid-cake today) but could you put the caption in another Header row? If you did that I am just guessing that the caption should repeat as well as the table heading.
But of ...

Re: H1 Spacing Varies Based on TOC Chapter Break Settings?
Do these headings all start at the top of a new page? Is there any reason why you have to have a chapter break before them, or could they happily just flow one after the other?

Ah, I've seen that happen - actually I wanted to change a variable to use a different font not the regular body font, so that's how I figured out how it is.

You should also press your vendors to ensure that they only translate what needs to be translated and not charge you for 100% or fuzzy matches in your projects, but do be aware that they do sometimes need to have previous material to ensure consistency, unless they have created a set of style guides ...

Re: Table splitting problem
I have a sneaky suspicion you can fix it if you change the "borders" property, and I think what you're looking for is "collapse", to be applied to the element of the table that is causing the problem. Look at td, tr, th, table, it could be in any of them. Give it a go and do let us know if that ...

I'm no expert in Lingo (for that read "never used it") but I have worked with localisation vendors for many years. If you have a preferred vendor, I suggest you speak to them directly to see what they would suggest as the most efficient workflow. It's possible that you could send them your English ...

I haven't had to use tech support for RH (haven't used the product for several years, actually) but I can certainly vouch for the tech support from Madcap. Even with Bronze support I had really full help from Alvaro who called me on my phone and remoted in to my machine so he could drive and let me ...

Re: Shortcut for opening Variables Window?
No underlines on my system, even when pressing Alt (Windows Vista bites again, I suspect). Am familiar with the ampersand thingy, so it's a shame they didn't bother to include them in their .res files seeing as the shortcuts do work.

Mheh, Windows Vista here. :( So I'll just have to do the guessing game until I get them into my head (or onto a piece of paper).

Re: How do you use short line elimination?
Not really, I want the last line to say "blah are on." with one fewer "blah"s on the previous line. I've been told I'm not supposed to play around with the kerning too much (basically, "no compressing!") but I'd like to make the lines look pretty. I'm just being picky I suppose, but it would be nice ...

If, for example, you have a 4 x 4 table, and you want the first cell in the table to have borders and a yellow background but not the others (and that's a style you want for all tables - can't work out why you'd want it but that's just an example off the top of my head) you might want to create a ...

I'm SO glad you asked this, CMW, I was going to ask after reading the user docs and understanding the individual words but not the concepts those words were trying to describe... and I still don't actually understand what the options mean, and haven't yet been able to figure it out.

Re: Shortcut for opening Variables Window?
Using 6.1, I type Alt-I, V and then the first letter of the variable set, so that's one more keystroke you can do instead of a mouse click. I haven't figured out a way to select a specific variable which is a bit of a pain as I do have loads of software variables in my variables list. Oh well, never ...
