Customer wants to add bespoke content to HTML5 Help system
Hi, I'm fairly sure I've asked this question before so apologies for asking again but here goes...
Let's imagine I have a product called BIGPRODUCT and it has an extensive HTML5 Help system written in Flare 2017. The BIGPRODUCT Help is published to a Webserver.

Re: .CHM deprecated?
Thanks both. We already publish other documentation as HTML5 so the server setup is already done. It's looking like we'll make this another HTML5 deliverable.

.CHM deprecated?
Hi, our developers have told us that the .chm format has been deprecated and want us to start producing our Help in another format. Is there a generally accepted successor to the .CHM format?
Thanks

'Exclude Files' not being saved in import file
Hello, I am probably missing something here but hopefully one of you will be able to put me straight.
In my import file, I have various file types in the Import Files field. I want to exclude one specific topic file so I specify its filename in the Exclude Files field. I save the import file. But ...

Hi, we have the same issue. Raised it as Feature Request #46929 in November 2011. Might be worth you raising it as well.

Re: Mystery in topic files
Interesting. In every case so far (except one) there's an uppercase character next to the so that's probably it. Thanks very much.

No, the non-breaking space is appearing in topics that have only been edited in Flare.

Mystery in topic files
Hi, our translators have just spotted that is appearing in some of our topic files. There's no reason for our writers to have introduced them so I'm wondering if Flare has a habit of introducing them of its own accord. Does anyone known if this is a known issue?

I have a Help project where the output type is HTML Help. When I open one of the topics using Internal Text Editor the first line shows:

But when I build the Help and choose 'View Source' on the same compiled topic, the first line shows:

Re: Want a heading in PDF bookmarks but not in TOC proxy
I tried the manual bookmark method but it didn't give me what I expected - it included the other bookmarks in my document, but not the "Table of Contents" heading which I had definitely bookmarked.
Strange behaviour.

Want a heading in PDF bookmarks but not in TOC proxy
I'm using Flare 8 to produce PDF output. I have a TOC proxy and above it the title "Table of Contents".
I would like "Table of Contents" to appear as the first bookmark in the PDF's bookmark pane, followed by "Chapter 1", "Chapter 2" and so on.

Re: Crossrefs to bookmarks in snippets don't give correct pageno
In Flare 8, bookmarks in snippets are visible in the 'Insert Cross-Reference' dialog box.
When I build the PDF I get the error about cross-referenced topic not being part of the TOC, but when I open the PDF and click on the cross-reference it takes me to the correct location. The problem is that ...

Crossrefs to bookmarks in snippets don't give correct pageno
Flare lets you insert bookmarks into snippets. But when you create a cross-reference to a bookmarked snippet, the page number in the cross-reference text doesn't get updated - it stays at 'page 1' even though the snippet may start on page 34 in the PDF.
And Flare reports an error about: "Cross ...

Re: Can a variable definition include another variable?
VariableB is text that appears in the footer of a PDF document. Each PDF has different footer text - so I specify the footer text in each PDF's target file.
I don't think snippets work this way.

Can a variable definition include another variable?
Hi, will Flare let me use a variable within a variable?
I'm trying to set up this scenario:
VariableA = 'Company'
VariableB = 'Installing applications made by VariableA'
I've tried using the [%=VariableSet.variablename%] syntax within Variable B but it is treated as literal text.
Any other ideas ...

Re: Avoiding page breaks between a graphic and it's intro
Unfortunately the DIV idea won't work because my block elements are within a list - but I have found that setting "page-break-after: avoid;" on the intro element has the desired effect: the intro statement is moved onto the next page with the graphic.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Avoiding page breaks between a graphic and it's intro
Hi, I would like to find a way of avoiding page breaks between a graphic and it's preceding introductory statement, so that they are kept together on the same page. (I'm producing PDF output using Flare 8.)

Re: How do I get document title to appear in footer?
Thanks. I think Lisa's suggestion will work best for us - then all the documents can continue to share the same variable set and we supply the DocTitle on the target. Excellent idea. Thanks again

How do I get document title to appear in footer?
I have a Flare 8 project containing the source and targets for multiple PDF files. I want each document's title to appear in the document's footer. To do this I have only used H1 for a document's title on the cover page; all my chapters start with a H2. I've included the variable Heading.Level1 in ...
