Re: You and Your - how to stop technical authors using these!

yeah - that works pretty nicely. obv just got to watch out for them accepting the auto suggestion and inserting something like this in the text all over the place:

4. Then when you *** WARNING DON'T USE THE WORD YOU *** click the button it will cause the dialog to be displayed...

:D
but; it ...

Re: You and Your - how to stop technical authors using these!

Hi Nita

As mentioned; Im not ruling it outright; but the following suggests how I might word your examples. Note that same outcome is achieved, and word count is less (saves £'s across a large document being translated);

"Set the options to suit your preferences" --> Configure as required.

or ...

Re: You and Your - how to stop technical authors using these!

I agree with RamonS-
here; I have found a few things;
1. The use of you and your leads to longer sentences than needed. Since we are then translating the documents into multipel languages the costs go up significantly.

2. I have also seen it promote a more "chatty" writing style which doesn't fit ...

You and Your - how to stop technical authors using these!

hello,
what is the best way at getting technical authors to stop using "you" and "your" in the documentation?
I can't see anyway to "remove" the words from the standard dictionary (thus being highlighted as an error) and using an auto suggestion doesnt really enforce it.

Any suggestions?

Re: Project Imports often "quietly" fails

ok; so after more digging ; the import will always fail if some of the files show up in RED. ie the destination is newer.
Potentially a few times I have updated a linked file to just quickly try something out knowing (?!) that it would be overwritten on an import. Even if i select the item to ...

Re: Project Imports often "quietly" fails

i think thats the problem... when this happens a dialog box appears saying "are you sure" (paraphrasing), and you say yes. It goes away and thinks about things but then nothing gets updated...
or so it seems.

then run the import again and you get the same files being reported as "missing" or newer ...

Re: Project Imports often "quietly" fails

a few failure modes;

it sometimes does not pick up new files from the master. eg new .htm topics (even though *.htm;*.html is selected in import options).
and
it sometimes does not pick up files that have changed

I *THINK* this happens when the dialog shows some files as being "source is newer" or ...

Project Imports often "quietly" fails

Hello
we have a "master" project in which we have most of our inhouse styles/graphcis/skins etc defined.
we then have a number of projects which essentially contain the product specific topic but import all of the styles etc from the master project.

I have recently noticed that the "Reimport ...

i'm pretty sure I have set all BGColors to #000000 and also pretty sure there isnt an image overriding it...

Background Page Colour on WebHelp Mobile Output

Hi,
Our help is lo-lite - ie black background with white / light grey text. Ive tweaked the skin and all looks fine; except around the main intro page where the bottom section is solid white.

My css already has:

@media mobile
{
body
{
background-color: #000000;
}
}

and I am correctly ...

Mobile Web Help Image sizes

we currently do this:

img
{
max-width: 850px;
}
...
@media print
{
img
{
max-width: 16.00cm;
}

is there any way to do a similar thing for MOBILE img elements so that they have a max width of say 200px so they fit reasonably on a mobile device screen?

eg

@media mobile
{
img
{
etc ...

Re: Add Title to Mini TOC

this may help some people;
if flare v7 it turns out the div class has changed slightly;

I needed to do this to get it to work (and stay back compatible):

MadCap|miniTocProxy,
MadCap|miniTocProxy_0
{
mc-auto-number-format: 'Contents of this section:';
mc-auto-number-class: miniTocBoxTitle ...

Re: Binding to SourceGear Vault

bump... i'd still very much like to see this issue addressed. We are having to manually check files in and out of vault and this has led to the obvious problems where stuff hasnt been checked in, or in some cases edited by multiple people without source control leading to loss of data....

I would like a variable similar to <year> but one that is the 'build' date. Currently we have a custom build step that creates a custom variable file for each weekly ...
