Re: Video recording has failed, reduce the recording region

Haven't seen that error message, but I have tried to use Mimic's on-screen video recording. My suggestion is, don't. I've never been happy with the results.

It's a lot more work on your part, but you can use keyframes to build your own animation. Start with an image of the background and an image ...

Re: Capture Crashed with a General Exceptio when Saving an I

GDI+ is a Windows utility, not Madcap's. Could be something in Capture going wrong to trigger it, but I'd look at the computer first. Can you put a trial version on another machine (Windows 10 perhaps) and try the image there?

Annotations can shift

Was about to ask for help, but it seems this is a "feature". Flare can shift annotations around if it thinks it should

I was experimenting with annotations in Capture. (Not sure that I like the look anyway, but...)

Re: Strange css interpretation

Apologies for missing the detail of target choice. That's certainly relevant.

I still hold that the problem is coming from an as-yet unidentified variable in the mix. I tried to recreate the situation using the MadCap sample project. My steps and results are as follows:
1) I imported your p.Title ...

Re: Automatically convert H3 to dropdown

There's nothing that you can define for the h3 to turn it into a drop-down. You'll need to replace them all, where the h3 text becomes the drop-down title and everything following to the next heading gets wrapped into the drop-down body. Could get messy. Not sure if even pluqin's style replacer ...

Taking it one piece at at time, title border first.

Time to open your browser's style inspector and see what else is going on with that title. I created a .css file with your sample and used it in a simple .htm file. What I got looks like the following:

Lord knows I'm not CSS expert, but I think the first trouble may be related to how the font fits within its defining box. At the least, I'd specify the margins in terms of em rather than px. There are a couple of useful links that I refer to when I'm having trouble with this stuff...

Re: Bookmarks, Dropdowns, table styles, snippets etc.

Lot of questions for one post. I'll see what I can do...

a) Cross-references and formatting: Depends on the output, but in general it's a matter of setting your CSS to produce what you want.

b) That's what it does. Really, it's a good thing. There are other threads on the topic.

c) Reports. You ...

Border when capturing the active window

If I use Ctrl-Shift-A to capture the active window, I always get a border on three sides of the window, which is a view of whatever is behind the window. The Windows Alt-PrtScr combination doesn't do that. (Compare left and right images, attached.)

I suspect that this has something to do with how ...

Re: Searches with multiple words don't return any results

IIRC, in version 12 Flare went from an implied "or" to an implied "and" between words in a search.

You might try enabling partial word searches. I can't find any notes for how to change back to an implied "or".

Re: Short DateTime Variable - month name GE/US

Two answers that I can think of. Pretty sure that you could write (or find) a JScript program to pull the date using any locale. Or, you could go the easy route and switch to the ISO format: YYYY mm dd.

Glad that you don't have to use leading numeric values for the month and day. I never know ...

Very good input, and I greatly appreciate both responses. The single project route is the one that I'm leaning toward, but I was questioning my choice.

As Nita suggests, it's a matter of percentage. If 90% of the information for an output is unique to that output, and 10% matches the main project ...

d) where those workbooks and how-to documents will contain some content that's in the documentation ...

Re: Can I add a 5th level item to the side menu?

You could try editing the xml file, SideMenu.flskn. At about line 57 you could copy the style class for the 4th level and name the copy 5th level. Just tried that in a sample project and the fifth level is available for formatting.

Not sure how well that will work out in your project. There may be ...

Re: Making a table cell break a long line of text

You can force word breaks with

Code: Select all

word-break: break-all;
in the style for an element. Note that there may be browser support issues with that. There's also

Code: Select all

overflow-wrap: break-word;
If I may, I also suggest looking into using div tags to display columns rather than using tables.
