Topic pop-ups and the TopNav skin

I noticed today that the new TopNav skin in Flare 11 doesn't support topic pop-up links. They all get converted to regular links. Text links are still supported, but they don't quite do what I want.

But, I can copy a pop-up link from a topic in old Flare 10 build, put it into the freshly built ...

Re: Possible to resize Popups while viewing in the ouptut?

I believe that most or all pop-ups use an iframe. I don't know if there's anything you can do within the Flare project to provide a border that users can resize, but you might be able to add some jquery code to the output files after the build finishes. Try searching StackOverflow for "resizable ...

Yes, that worked. Good suggestion.

How to generate a large PDF output?

I've got a medium-sized project (3600 topics with 1800 images). I have no trouble generating HTML5 output, but if I try to generate a PDF, Flare will consistently fail, showing the error message, "Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.

Am running Flare 10.2.2 on a Latitude with ...

Search chunk file size tradeoffs?

According to the help files, you can set the maximum size of the search chunk files between 10,000 and 100,000, with a default of 30,000.

Unfortunately, no guidance is provided (that I can see) as to the trade-offs. A very old topic in this forum suggests that a smaller size might result in a ...

Absolutely did. Also, created and tested examples that match our product instead of the words used in the article.

"Not" was a bit sketchy, but ^ worked well. Otherwise, the information is still relevant to HTML5. But, if anyone wants to post an update, I'm all eyes. Still quite keen on learning ...

I've just discovered the following knowledge base article for HTML5 searching:

Re: Search Improvements

Chiming in to say, "Me too!". The most common request I get is for improvements to how the search feature works.

If I could add meta-tags to topics, so that similar terms could be included without cluttering up the text, that would help. It would also be nice if matches in the meta-topics were ...

Leading image using a :before pseudo class?

I might be approaching this the wrong way, but I'm trying to use a :before pseudo class to add an arrow in front of each xref.
(I may eventually decide that I don't like the look and skip the arrow. Regardless, I want to figure out the mechanics of this.)

If I use the following code, I get the ...

Re: Rename Gigantic Master TOC by using find & replace

I don't know of a way to do that inside Flare (still new at this, myself). But, what would happen if you just edited the title properties of the xml file directly? It's in the Project\TOCs folder.

I'd zip up a copy of my project before trying that...

I'd look in the style sheet. The <MadCap:xref> tag probably has a different style than the <a> tag.

HTML5 search bar location

For HTML5 output, I've found that most in-house reviewers fail to find the search field when it's in its default location.
But, when I move the field to just right of the logo, they spot it immediately.

To move the bar, I edit Styles.css after building the project and change the property ".search ...

Re: Reduce the Internal Text editor font size. Possible?

I'm pretty sure that the editor font size is the Windows default. Try changing that:
1) In the Control Panel, search for "Colors and Metrics". (There doesn't seem to be a link for it any more.)
2) Open, "Change Window Colors and Metrics"
3) Have a blast.

Re: Allow user to flip conditions in output?

Interesting challenge. How's your JavaScript? You can probably wrap each of the two versions in its own set of div tags and provide a button to toggle the visibility. It would probably be easiest to use different styles for the contents of each section, but you could write some JavaScript code to ...

Re: Code tags

Nita & Dave - thanks for the tips. That will save me a lot of time.

I've looked, but not found...

HTML5 index response slow

I'm finding that, for HTML5 output, the index takes a while to catch up to what I'm typing. I like the way that it works, doing more of a search than just a straight-up match-the-word index, but it can take 10 seconds or more sometimes to respond, especially when looking for multiple words, one ...

Within my project's Analyzer folder, there are two .sdf files: Content8.sdf and Content9.sdf (and matching .fldb files for each).

The Content8 version is more than two months old. Do I guess correctly that it can be deleted with no ill effect on my project?

Re: Any experiences of large Flare projects (1000s of topics)?

For what it's worth, my project is up to 5000 topics and counting. I figure there will be another 1500 to 2000 before it's done. I'm building HTML5 and CHM output on a standard-issue Dell Latitude E6420 with 8G ram and Windows 7.

I haven't had any troubles until today. Just finished switching the ...

Does anyone know how to make cross references include a page number in print output, but not in HTML? I'm using the style Madcap:xref. It's formatted as {paratext} {pageref}. What I'd like is for the {pageref} portion not to appear in my HTML output. In the style, I can't see any way to apply a ...

Today, I'm musing about RelTables. Let me share my thoughts and then I'll ask for your suggestions...
