Re: Image references

Maybe a bookmark?
Doesn't show. Doesn't create an entry in Styles.css. Easy to search. Can contain anything you want, like a reference to the screen ID.

Re: Pasting preformatted code into Flare

Hard to be sure without seeing an example, but this should be easy in the text editor. (As opposed to the XML editor)

'course, you do say that you're working within a table, so perhaps there's something about the cell formatting. Or maybe you're getting <p> </p> tags within the cell.

Re: Computer Voice and Scripts for Audio

Did you mean "Mimic appears to" rather than Captivate appears to"? I think you would need to save the computer voice to a WAV or MP3 file and use that on one of the tracks.

Curious why you're moving from Captivate to Mimic. What do you see as the advantage?

Re: Pre tags and line breaks in CHM

Okay, figured it out. If you're going to go <pre>, go all the way.

My mistake was to leave line breaks as <br /> tags. Those have to go. Replace them all with cr lf (or just cr) characters, as would exist if you copy a code sample from notepad and paste to Flare using the inline option ...

For the first half of that, a quick search tells me that there is a tool to export a Wordpress page (maybe even the whole site) as XML.

As for "easily import into Madcap", you're probably on your own.

Pre tags and line breaks in CHM

Days past, I would write code samples using a paragraph style. It worked, but it wasn't a great solution.
Now, I wrap my code samples in <pre> tags to preserve formatting. That works much better for everything. Everything except CHM formatted outputs.

If copying a code sample within <pre> tags from ...

Re: Supporting Customer Extension of Help

Correct about copying a template HTML file (which I provide and keep up-to-date in terms of format) to a specified folder. Not about the alias. I've done that ahead, setting aside 100 ID values. Those match a set of designated file names in the target folder.
You'll have to have those files when ...

Re: Supporting Customer Extension of Help

What I do is pretty basic. Won't get me invited to speak at MadWorld anytime soon.

My solution allows a user to create topics that they can open with an F1 press from within our program. That works because our program is used for application development and it's easy to add a line of code ...

I do this, but I don't try to emulate PowerPoint. I give my students a workbook (paper!) and teach directly within our program, not from pictures of our program. Might be different if I had to teach policies and procedures instead of software.

What I've found does work in a classroom, is to keep a ...

Linked projects

TI'm trying to create a sub-project, holding just a few topics from my main project.

Could you run a pre-build batch file to copy the files over? Flare has great support for pre- and post-build events.

I think I'm missing the point. Why can't they all just come here? I'm all in favour of user-groups and having us all share information, but now we've got these forums, and the Linked-In group, and now the Slack group, and who-knows what else? Why can't we just meet in one place?
