yes, I did change to .html - assume I've got the basics covered :)

Re: csh and directory structure
Thanks Lisa!
I just figured all that out, and suspected as much when I looked at the *csh.html file recently.
However, as I said, I gave the flare topics on this to different developers, who then went off and did whatever they did (still haven't seen the help show up in the new system we're building ...

Re: csh and directory structure
Topics don't need to be all at the same level.
When calling the files, you need to use the default_CSH.htm file, then add the # - are you/the devs using that one?
hmm, dev has been more mysterious than usual about how they're doing this, and it's now been passed to an intern. So I'm getting ...

wow, don't know what happened but I looked several times and didn't see the source code option in find & replace, only in find - maybe the window was not expanded enough, you wouldn't know as there's no scrollbars.

Re: search and replace only for open file?
they DO appear in the print output. I didn't press any spacebar, but imported word docs (where for some reason people still do this).

Apologies if you already figured this out, but if you select "whole project", you have to click the Start button in the Options section to kick off the whole project search.

correction - finds many that are NOT double spaces tho, inc comma + space and all spaces surrounding variables
and, it gets worse - I let it run, and I'm afraid to find out what all it changed, and whether it deleted variables. holding breath...

search and replace only for open file?
really? I can't search and replace on more than one topic at a time?
I thought this used to sort of work, has it always been like this?
just to get double spaces out is not even possible, nor any other global changes or fixes. wow.

Page of appears in chrome
in html output (webhelp), the text "Page of" appears in the toolbar when viewing in Chrome.
It's not there in firefox
I removed the item CurrentTopicIndex from the skin, but text still appears
anybody else?

In the test option, I'm hoping results are different when we do it for real but it does render the test less useful.
MOTW? OK, just looked that up and switched it on and it fixed this in test mode, so thanks very much!

context-sensitive + activex + ie only!!
Just did a test run of the context-sensitive help and discovered major issues:
1. It opens in IE, even tho Firefox is my default browser
2. It requires a confirmation to run Active X (why?) AND it requires this every time I click on Test
3. It opens a new browser window (guess I can set it to open ...

Re: Perforce and Flare
The real chore is when you add, delete or move files - you have to do this manually in P4. New graphics, snippets, all have to be added manually - I see this as Flare's job.
I'm confused about this - source control should be able to add/delete/move things in a folder recursively, and a ...

Re: conditons required to keep from publishing topics
What confuses me is why you have draft topics in a production version of your help.
Single-sourcing should separate source and output, that's one of its main objectives for me. The "production version" only happens when I publish.

I've said a few times that I've been single-sourcing and using online help for quite some time, but clearly differently than others, which is what I'll try to uncover. This is not a case of needing online 101 guidance but of meeting specific requirements.

It does make sense, tho I think the way I'm using it having exclude overrule would have worked better.
I'm find to use it differently, but in other tools the conditions are actually available to be used for more complex situations than this, so they are more powerful. For me, I'd rather control ...

well, the biggest problem is not wanting everything in the project to publish when I build html

Flare is excellent quality for the amount of money you paid for it.
Don't think I agree with this one at the moment either - no matter how much or how little I pay, if it's not usable it's not a bargain.
I will get on a support call, and see if I'm missing something. But it seems people are not ...

Re: conditons required to keep from publishing topics
So picking anything else than including by default would be just stupid.
I disagree. Including everything by default is not intelligent. And the conditions don't work.

What's happening is that a bunch of extraneous topics are publishing every time I build. They are marked with a condition 'Later' which I exclude from the Target and the Skin (do I need to do both, btw?). Yet they still publish.
