are you kidding me? it disregards what I put in the TOC??
this is a pain, if true. I've followed up on the case I opened but jeez...
I have several books, so several TOCs. this will be really painful for reuse, having multiple condition tags and having to make it all work.

investigating links
When I search on my help file, I get results that are NOT in that TOC. There are topics linked to my book/TOC but they're not in there. I don't see where this is coming from.
They don't appear in the TOC navigation, but in search results. There are several of them.

Arguments for image thumbnails
Hi all
Does anyone know of any usability studies or other info to point someone to re thumbnails & hover being good practice?
I've got the question about it and provided an answer but any backup could be quite useful.
Thanks for any help!

ah, well, that sounds like fun, but of course there are additional issues - for some reason, my mac can't connect to the remote network in browse mode, so transferring files is painful. And with the windoze vm on the mac, I can't even get the vpn access to work.

hmm, not sure about this zip option - I can try it but basically I need to make sure I copy it. And it's not usually a problem, I just forgot to copy after several days away.

thought it shows the date I copied it, but maybe it is registering which files have changed, since they aren't all the same date. so files changed on the 21st at home will have dates of the 22nd when I copy the project to work pc.

I have to say, Andrew, I have no idea what you're saying here.
xref target? you mean the topic the xref points to? it is included, so if that's what you mean it's not the problem.
However, I changed the xref for print output so that it adds on page {#} and it is NOT updating!! Have I managed to ...

Hi there
Is there any way to see the 'last modified' date for a file, either topic or image?
I'm copying the whole project onto a zip drive and carrying between work and home, so the dates are modified all the time but no way to see what files were actually changed.

hi, yup that's exactly what I did

Ok, here's a specific problem that makes no sense

Re: Headings vs structural levels
hmm, ok interesting to think of leaving everything h1 in online output. However, there are loads of things that 'just work' in the 'other tool' that are quite painful and not exactly right in Flare.

Hi there
No, I have a condition and a style - I'm wondering if the style is what's making it publish, but the condition should override it, else conditions are not very useful.
thx

Re: Headings vs structural levels
This is turning out to be more of a problem - setting these for each topic is not something I'd expect to be spending time on. And it doesn't work the way I'd expect in Word output either, but since I have to change them anyway guess that doesn't matter so much.
However, what about the scenario ...

Re: Headings vs structural levels
So, if I got this right, it turns out the header style in the (web) output ignores the structural level. Which means you have to go in and manually make all level 2 topics Header 2. painful.
In addition, any time you move stuff around you have to check/fix this.

Re: If links aren't found on publish, what happens?
hmm, again counterintuitive - it appears if I link to a topic but don't include it in the TOC, it's still included in the output. Doesn't show up in the TOC but opens if I click a hyperlink to it.

Re: Invisible comments
yikes, just knowing they're not supposed to publish tells me that many things in flare are happening for me that should not be!
It's just regular html output so don't know why this would be but yes, completely reproducable. Unfortunately, don't have the time right now to do bug report.
thx all

ok, confused...
I finally used annotations as my conditions were still publishing, even tho I'd set them to be excluded.
BUT, they publish to the output, which was my original question/intent to address.
guess I'll go back to trying conditions, but contrary to what I'd thought from these posts ...

Re: Image position - left doesn't show, can't scroll
Thanks, but as my question clearly (I thought) states, I want to know what is happening, and why, not how to set a max width and height, which of course is a lot more obvious.
It's set to default. also tried automatic, which was worse.
I'd rather know how/why the image is getting cut off than have ...
