I don't use any version control software in conjunction with Flare but if you do, it should be a simple matter to check out the version you want while the newer versions of files remain.
In my situation, just using folders to backup, I would backup the Flare Content and Project folders every time ...

Re: Create two columns within a topic
Sorry if this seems simplistic, but I would just put those short item lists into a two or three column table which is set to Autofit to Window. I'm not sure how screen readers would handle this.

I also use Windows 7 and never get the security warning when starting up Flare.

Re: Search fails until refresh for some users
You're probably right about the cache. I clear the cache and delete cookies at the same time so it's probably the cache causing the problem. But it definitely happens on PCs too. If I move the file for a topic and then click on that topic in the TOC, I get an error 404 File not found. If I clear the ...

Re: Search fails until refresh for some users
I have just come across the exact same issue with a user. When I searched for a term, I got multiple hits. When he searched, nothing. I was thinking that the difference might be that I am constantly deleting cookies on my machine because otherwise there are times when new topics are not displayed in ...

Re: Word/PDF targets - page layout and breaks different
A lot of things that work when outputting to PDF don't work when outputting to Word, e.g. title page images. I think it might be like printing a document and getting slightly different outputs with different printer drivers.
You probably need to create a separate target for your Word outputs and ...

Re: Problems importing MS-Word docs
It sounds like inline formatting might be causing at least some of your problems. Your Word documents need to be really "clean" style-wise, to import cleanly, e.g. all formatting to be applied via styles otherwise you have to do some cleaning up when it gets into Flare. Not sure about the missing ...

I'm using HTML5 Tripane, not TopNav, but I assume this setting is somewhere in the skin. Have you tried editing the various skin elements?

Re: WebHelp Highlight/Bold Search topic
Hi Sophia, I thought I knew the answer but now I'm not sure. If you open your Webhelp skin, on the General tab there is an option to Synchronize TOC. This highlights a selected topic when the TOC is displayed. I'm not sure if it will work for a search topic but it's worth a try.

That's why I stuck with the HTML5 Tripane format. It's not as modern (although I still think it looks good) and it means your users aren't going to become disorientated.

Re: Creating multiple target output from one project
Hi Christina,
There are separate stylesheets for print styles and online styles. If you open a topic, at the top of the screen there are buttons for Web/Print Layout and for Medium - Print or Non-Print. You can use the same styles for both print and HTML5 output but you need to format them ...

Re: Changing book icon in TOC of HTML5 skin
I have inserted a different icon on some of my TOC entries in HTML5 output. To change that icon, I go into the topic General properties and select that icon in the Style Class field. I wouldn't like to have to do that on every single TOC entry though. It works because I only have a few topics with ...

Re: Securing Access to Flare HTML5 Output
Our HTML5 output is only available to our customers. I can't tell you much about how it's done but I change the default.htm file to default.aspx and then users are forced to login with credentials we supply to them. Obviously our developers have written some code which does this authentication.

There's another topic where this is covered. Don't know how to link it but this is the title: "Build fail Could not find a part of path ErrorID=10086".
I searched for "10086" because I thought I remembered it.

Re: Users require multiple outputs
Sorry, Jenco, more ideas! It's still going to be a huge amount of work for you if you have hundreds of customers. It might be easier for you to publish all your manuals together and instead get the programmers to do the work - i.e. they could put a logon on each manual so that customers could only ...

Re: Users require multiple outputs
Sorry, it's a different TOC you'd need for each customer - just copy and paste the TOC entries for the appropriate manuals into that TOC. I think that would be easier than trying to maintain different conditions for each customer. You could use the same target (e.g. HTML5) and change the Master TOC ...

Re: Users require multiple outputs
That seems really inefficient. The only thing I can suggest is that you maintain all your documents in one project and then produce a separate target for each customer which contains the full subset of their documents. At least that way, they get them all in one location rather than having to access ...

Re: text being deleted and duplicated
This has happened to me as well but not for a while so I'm a bit hazy on the details. When it does happen, I do a quick undo and am then very careful about where my cursor is when I try again. In fact, I might even insert a new blank paragraph and cut and paste the relevant bullet point into it ...

Lots of interesting information and suggestions, thanks. I do have Disable Master Pages ticked, and basically everything works ok except that original issue with the footers. Sounds like there's plenty of experimenting I can do though to tweak things and make them work better.
