Flare Roadshow - anyone been or going? is it worth it?

Hi all,
I noticed there is a madcap road show hitting London soon. I'm considering going, but I don't know if it is really worth while. I attended the 3-4 day training session ages ago and even that I felt was too basic and not anything I want to repeat.

Has any one attended one of these? Is it ...

Re: Set positioning of the a.Popup target style

So reply from MC is there is no way to reposition the popup style. A bug report has been submitted and it 'might' get fixed in the future.

In the mean time I will have to use drop-downs. Best solution so far. Also, I'd say report it if you want it. Power in numbers.

Thanks,

Need page break styles without making lots of new styles

Hi all,
I have quite a few styles in my stylesheet, multiple mediums etc.
I have been setting page breaks in some of my styles, and at times in the paragraph setting in the topic itself - this isn't perfect and I want to manage it with styles entirely.
Example, I have 3 P styles.
p_main
p_indent
p ...

Re: Set positioning of the a.Popup target style

Yeah I have used them in drop-downs, it works, and its not terrible, but I'd defintely like to have to option and gain some feedback from users. The popup could be handy as it would avoid scrolling to make the video fit the height of the frame. I've set all my topic panes and images etc so that ...

Set positioning of the a.Popup target style

Hi all,
I'm using MCs Popup style that available for links etc to open a couple of flash videos that I've made in Mimic. The idea is that I want them to remain in my web help without opening another window for the video to play in. So I have embedded the flash controls in the video and want it to ...

Re: style mapping/changing

regular expressions in flare can definitely help with that. I've done it a few times to find </p> tags when doing something similar to what you are doing now, I think \s+ should help.

two options:
Apply the condition to each paragraph block.
Select the text spanning multiple blocks if necessary, go to Format > Conditions.

Is the alignment screwed up when you generate content? I noticed this previously myself, but when I created my PDFs and online help it was fine.

Re: Both fixed width and autofit columns in same table?

Sure can.
I use a 2 column table like you have, the first column is 125px, the other is 'auto' and the whole table is auto. Means I have a nice sized column on the left and a dynamic column on the right.
In the table stylesheet just set the right column to Width: (not set) - delete whatever ...

Yeah thats what I was afraid of......having to do the typing. With over 1500 topics its lengthy process to find the ones that are named incorrectly.

Thanks.

Rename filename based on heading level or topic title

Hi all,
Pretty simple, is it possible to rename files within Flare based on the heading level or topic name, TOC label etc?

I've got a few recycled topics that have had name changes but the original filename is still there, and a few topics that have a messed up filename entirely and I'd like to ...

Re: Flare 8: Dual monitors and UI being 'lost'

Yep, thats exactly whats happening. All the time lately. I updated my .NET but that hasn't resolved it. Maybe be the display drivers but unsure why it would cause an issue now - thinking its something that madcap have done with the update to v8.

Re: PDF - mailto - does not work

I can confirm that this does work for me. I have email addresses in plenty of PDFs that I send out, these all work and launch the email client on my machine correctly.

The code is:

<a href="mailto:emailaddress@company.com"><span class="Hyperlink">emailaddress@company.com</span></a>

Flare 8: Dual monitors and UI being 'lost'

Hi all,
Its a wierd thing to describe in a topic title. and the screenshot below will show it best. I'm not sure whats going on here and I wonder if its to do with using dual monitors, or if perhaps its my video drivers (I'm on to IT about getting them updated)

Wondering if anyone else has noticed ...

Pretty sure that you should infact be setting the page break settings on the row, not the P class in the table.

Re: Flare 8 Niggles

Not sure if this is browser specific but it is HTML5 related. Shows up in both Firefox 10 and IE7 (though I'm not surprised by IE as it doesn't sully support html5)

Anyway,
snippets that contain an expanding drop-down do not keep their header formatting. I use quite a few drop-downs in this way and ...

I'd say 18 months is a pretty fair time frame. Suppose you could use a script to determine the browser version and feed HTML5 to those with the right one or normal webhelp to those without.

Re: Flare 8 WebHelp on 'lesser' browsers

Flare has their online help for version 8 in HTML 5. I'm viewing it on IE8 and it seems ok. There are a couple small things I've noticed but nothing to make it unusable, and its such an improvement on normal webhelp. Best bet is to check it out yourself and see if there are any show stoppers that ...

I just email madcap support for a download link. I cant update via Flare (firewall restrictions) so need a direct link to give my IT department.

New features look pretty good, interested to see the new HTML 5 output.
