Re: Conditions inside H1 that includes mc:autonum

The autonum bit should be part of your h1 style in your PDF medium, so yes, it's definitely possible. I'm in the middle of stuff so can't give you details, but you might want to look in that area. Also, have you generated your HTML5 target? It's possible that things are set up correctly and your XML...

Re: The specified path, file name, or both are too long.

It's not the output folder that's the problem, it's the folder depth of your Flare project and the 260-character limit that's causing the problem. There's also a "Temporary" folder used during the build and it's usually that one that causes things to fail. To test, move your whole Flare pr...

Re: Find panel not repsonding to inpur from keyboard

This has been a problem for years and years and years, and usually happens to me when I've been doing lots of searches, or manipulating things a lot. Please raise a bug because until lots of us do, the techies in the broom cupboard at Madcap aren't going to get round to sorting it out. (I tried feed...

In your first screenshot you have things filtered on "My". Take a look at that filter and see what other options there are. (I don't have Flare open at the mo so I can't check.) That'll probably get you on your way.

Re: Best practice for applying condition tags to topics?

For your case, no, it doesn't matter which. But do keep in mind that at some stage your might be required to produce a different kind of output, so where you set the condition becomes more relevant.

Re: Upload a word file on online help by an external source

If the Word doc is always going to have the same name and the same location, you should be able to add a link in your Flare project. If it's going to change name or location, then it's not something you can do, as far as I know. Also, I suggest that whoever the external person is creates a PDF rathe...

Re: Moving from CHM to server-installed HTML help

I know what you mean - it took me years to persuade my previous company to swap. As suggested, as long as the help is using CSH IDs rather than hardcoded filenames to link to the help, it should be fairly smooth. And even if they don't, I did a proof of concept to change their app that used hardcode...

Re: Exclude * except... ?

I'm assuming you're talking about just items in the Content Explorer and not things in the Project Organizer? Here's something you could try. Add a condition, "Bedford", to your project, and apply it to all your topics. (That should also take care of images, as they'll be dealt with when y...

My Preview window has disappeared, as has my Builds window, and the tip suggested by Psider didn't work. I've restarted my machine and I still can't see either of these.

Any suggestions how to get the windows back?

Re: Conditions cannot be changed in the target

Not sure what's going on here, but a default first step if Flare is misbehaving is to close your project and quit Flare, delete the \Analyzer folder and then re-open your project. Flare then re-generates the \Analyzer folder, cleaning up any oddities that might have crept in. Give that a go and see ...

Re: Changing Conditional Tag name without breaking documents?

You could do a two-step process. Before you start, make a backup of your project. 1. In your condition tag set (I'm imagining it's called "Conditions"), change "ABBlueprint" to "XYBlueprint". (I can't remember, but I think you can't have spaces in a condition, so I've c...

Re: Central Reviews - How to Hide Tags

Bad news - I don't think it's possible. Central as a review portal just doesn't work for us, so we now generate Word outputs and send those to reviewers. I think Madcap are (or at least were ) intending to rework the review feature of Central but I don't know if they are actually doing it Sorry to b...

If you're using the trial version with a view to buying, then I suggest speaking directly to Madcap. They're going to want to make a sale here, so if this is a showstopper for you buying it, they're going to work very hard to find you a solution so they can make a sale. Give them a call, they're ver...

Have you looked in the help? Try these topics as starter points. Re: 'open linked file with' for images - menu option broken

I'm assuming you're running Flare on a Mac using a Windows VM, so this suggestion might not be appropriate, so I'll make a suggestion pretending you're just using Windows. In Windows File Explorer, set your default program for editing png, bmp etc to whatever you generally use. That ought to poke Fl...

Re: Splitting (long) list items

Sure. For example: Create a new (empty) list item (potentially with one empty paragraph) at the spot where you want to split the list. Put the text cursor on that new list item. Press Shift+Tab. That's brilliant, and so simple! Would have saved hours and hours over my years playing in Flare! Thank ...

Looks good, thanks! Don't suppose you have a way to split a list? Currently I copy the whole list and paste it below, then delete the END of the list from the first list, and delete the START of the list from the copy of the list. Tedious and error-prone, I wish there were a command to "split l...

Re: Print "Whole Book" From HTML5 Help?

A couple of other things I'd want to consider. 1. For your own protection, I'd think about adding something to the page layout you use for your PDF that says something along the lines of "This PDF may not contain the most up-to-date information and is not controlled. For best results see the on...

Re: Scaling down everything

Not hard. Create a new medium in your stylesheet that contains the differences from the default If you don't already have a page layout you want to use, create a new one. Create a new target for your new doc. Create a new TOC to contain only those topics you want in your cut down doc. Think that's a...

Re: Two different dropdown hotspot styles?

I had a problem with Flare not liking nested dropdowns. I have a default style with the arrow on the left, but wanted a lower-level dropdown to nest, with the arrow on the right. Flare noped out on me on that one. I was able to change the border and font size for the nested dropdowns, but when I cha...

Re: Can macros be used for text searches?

Happy new year!

I suggest you do your search and replace outside of Flare using a different tool. I use FAR HTML for that kind of thing. You can load all of your topics from all of your projects into FAR, and do your 20 searches. Would that help?
