Re: Flare 10 released

Just upgraded to version 10.0.1. Tried to output, got this: error.jpg The Errors tab shows ID: 10083 (Buffer cannot be null. Parameter name: buffer). This occurs during the "Generating final output..." step of the build, which is pretty much the very last step. The output directory contai...

Re: Real-time collaborating without Contributor?

Excellent idea Shawn. I have a few questions that could help us answer some of our own questions when discussing SAAS. Would you prefer to host your own server or use MadCap Servers? What kind of security would you require? There would need to be some kind of notification system to authors would kno...

Re: Flare 10 released

Flare V9 and V10 can be installed and run side by side. Teams working in mixed versions. Chances are that if a project is saved with V10, it will work in V9. For the most part, V9 simply ignores what it doesn't understand in the way of authoring. New Features in V10 like responsive design in the ski...

Re: How useful is Flare 10's word count feature?

The word count in the XML Editor (bottom left corner) is a very welcome enhancement in Flare 10. But how useful is it currently, if it's just a dead number on the screen? We need it to do a little more for us. When we communicate with translators and others who use our topics, we don't want to open...

Re: How useful is Flare 10's word count feature?

There is a report for this now in V10.
Create a new Report in the Project\Reports folder - Choose an empty report.
Scroll to Project and choose Statistics.
Generate and you have everything you need for the translators.

Obviously using Lingo is a much better way - but this should help.

Re: Keyboard stops working (Flare 10)

Just released an update that addresses this issue. If you cannot get it through the application, here is a direct link to it. http://downloads.madcapsoftware.com/flare100-1dngc/UpdateMadCapFlare_V1001.exe As for XP, we will work on XP for this release. No decisions have been made yet for the future....

Re: Keyboard stops working (Flare 10)

XP support is the reason for .NET 4.0 support. Anything below that and the install will require an update of the framework.
We are working on a fix for those who cannot upgrade to 4.5 which should be available in a few days.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Re: Keyboard stops working (Flare 10)

This appears to be an issue with .NET 4.0
If you upgrade to .NET 4.5 or 4.5.1, the issue appears go away.

Re: Flare v10 - Inconsistencies with HTML / PDF outputs

In web outputs, the svg image is converted to a PNG file with the size of 35px. Thats much smaller than 2cm in the CSS and that is the cause of seeing it blown up. The editor is not full CSS3 compliant at this point and thats why you see the original size of the image vs the blown up one. The PDF ou...

Re: Flare v10 - Inconsistencies with HTML / PDF outputs

I took a screen shot of your image and saved it as a png file. The actual size of the image I got is 47px by 47px. Converted to CM this is about 1.2cm The 2cm setting in the original stylesheet is causing the image to blow up to 2cm and possibly padding getting involved. When I set the size in the s...

Re: Flare v10 - Inconsistencies with HTML / PDF outputs

Looks like the background-size property for the background is the cause.

Set the size to 1cm 1cm seems to produce the results you want.

We do a lot of testing with all kinds of images.
Could you please open a case with support so we can see what is going on?
https://www.madcapsoftware.com/feedback/bugs.aspx

We will need a few of the images and details on what is happening.

Hmm, cute. All my note style images are tiny in Flare 10 PDF output. And my title page one. What's all that about then? There is an option in File > Options > General tab now called "Automatically resize low DPI Images" if you uncheck this, the images should return to they way they ...

Re: TM size

If the SQL server is local it may not be an issue.
If its network based and there are several people hitting it, there can be performance issues.
Having a few smaller ones vs one large one may be the best bet for performance reasons.

Rename the image from "Index" to something else. Looks like the name is the issue for it not showing up.

Re: Toggler Size suddenly changed

Create a new test project and insert the Drop down. Build and View it. Does it do the same? If not, it is something specific to the project and probably something in the stylesheet set on the OL, LI, or A styles. A quick way to figure out what is going on would be to contact support. https://www.mad...

Re: CSH topics in TOC?

Rob may have inadvertently given the impression that you can't exclude topics from full-text search. That's true in HTML Help but not in WebHelp. Just clear the Include topic when full-text search database is generated check box on the Topic Properties tab of the Properties dialog. This is true and...

Re: CSH topics in TOC?

Historically (HTML Help) it was very popular to keep CSH topics out of the TOC, Index, and Search. The industry in general has made a bit if a shift to include that specialized content in topics that would normally be included in these areas. In Flare, All topics are included in the output regardles...

Re: Flare Editor Displays Large Bullet Graphics

Ken,
The reason we are asking you to contact support is that we are not seeing the same thing here in our tests.
Attached is a small sample project where a red 8x8 96dpi bullet is being used.
Please open it and take a look. The bullet is set on the UL in the stylesheet.

Re: Flare 10 wishlists and sneak peeks?

Hoping for a "quick styles" box. At the moment every time I want to apply a style, I have to scroll down one or two times to get to the style I want, because the default styles (like abbr, b, big, cite, code etc) fill up the pane and my custom span.UI is down further. Even worse when I wa...

How large is the graphic being used? Whats the DPI of the image?

Re: Images in PDF output very small

Check the DPI of the images between the Windows ones and the Mac ones.
If some are 96DPI and the others are say 300DPI - this could be the cause.

For the record, I did enter a feature request for creating and using TOC Profiles while editing the TOC.
Set the properties you want in a profile and apply it to as many TOC items as needed.
