Re: Empty (H1-only) topic in left nav: Web vs. PDF
What do you mean by that? I'm suggesting that you delete the heading-only topics and leave them as unlinked books, then allow Flare to generate headings based on those book titles. If there's anything you don't want in either print or online outputs you should be able to condition it out.

Re: Empty (H1-only) topic in left nav: Web vs. PDF
There's a setting in the PDF target that might help. In the Advanced tab, there's an option to Inject headings for unlinked books in TOC. Presumably if you have an unlinked book in the TOC, Flare will automatically generate a heading of the appropriate level in the PDF?

Re: Reporting options
Just had a little play around and learned something! In the TOC, you can change it from the more normal Tree View to Grid View (in the toolbar). Then you can export the TOC to CSV. I guess if you have an online output that might not exactly cover every topic used by that target (there might be linke...

It probably is set, it's just not showing it to you. Same process - set that field to 'avoid' and it should prevent the page breaks.

Re: Using the Export Function vs. copy paste entire project
You can use an existing Flare project as a template when you're creating new projects! Create a new Flare project with just the directory structure and default files you need and save it somewhere accessible to everyone. Then when you start a new project, select New from existing and use your templa...

Re: Page Background and Foreground Print as Separate Pages
My first thought: Do you have any body frames on the decorated page? Flare needs somewhere to put the topic text, so you need body frames as well as decoration frames.

Re: Folder structure not updated
Hmm. I think that possibly when you export an updated project from Lingo, it overwrites existing files but doesn't delete stale files. So you might have both your original folders and your new renamed folders in there. Is that right? If so, you can remedy this by deleting the previously exported pro...

Re: Merging files from SDL Trados
I'm not experienced with translating via Trados, but it sounds like the XLIFF bundle it has produced are not quite what Lingo was expecting. Here are a few thoughts for avenues you could explore: Compare one of the XLIFF files you sent to the translator with the translated copy (using WinCompare or ...

Re: Build error (BoxLayout): Table header too large
I haven't encountered this particular error before, but from the description, it sounds a little like there's a big table header which cannot fit on the page. Do you have multiple rows within the <thead> element, by any chance? The thead element is meant to repeat on every page that the table flows ...

Re: Word output placing snippets inside tables
Do your snippets contain divs, or are there divs around the snippets within the topic? Word output doesn't support them so they're converted to single-cell tables.

Re: Different fonts sizes for different manuals with one sty
I would do this using stylesheet mediums, if you're not using them already. For example, I have documentation content with 11pt font, and training content with larger font. I use a training medium with larger font on my stylesheet, and in the training targets I set the stylesheet medium in the Advan...

Re: Auto-applied Conditions not showing up in Text Editor
If you've applied the conditional tag to your styles in the stylesheet, I wouldn't expect it to occur in the XML code of the topic - so I don't think you could find that using a find-and-replace. I'm not sure why it's not appearing consistently in the text editor. I think you're making this more com...

Re: How to remove links from a project
I feel like you shouldn't have to do this, but I'm not sure how your translation workflow differs from mine. It should be as simple as deleting the import file in the translated project, or modifying it so that it doesn't grab the filetypes you don't want. But you do still need a way to update the t...

Re: Snippets and Translation
What tools are you using for the translation? If you're using Madcap Lingo, it is definitely possible to translate snippets as separate files - Lingo translates the source files, including snippets. Alternatively, in Lingo you can select specific snippets to convert to text. However, it sounds like ...

Re: Numbered list across table rows
Shredder is right, and that solution is probably fine for a once-off where you really need to set the list to start at a specific number. But I don't think it's a good idea for a consistent structure like the checklist, because each time you add a new step to one of the sections, you'd need to manua...

Re: Want a heading in PDF bookmarks but not in TOC proxy
@robdocsmith, you got in ahead of me. To expand on that, your TOC probably has a topic in it for the print table of contents proxy. The heading should go in that topic instead of on the page layout. (If you don't have that topic with the proxy, you will have to add one to pull off this trick.) By th...

Re: Language settings for an autonum "Note:"
Ah right, that makes sense. Only thing I can think of is to create a separate stylesheet medium for German documents, but that might be a bit of a pain... I wonder if you can sneak a variable into your stylesheet for that word? Possibly in the format [%=VariableSet.Note%]. It depends whether Flare c...

Re: Want a heading in PDF bookmarks but not in TOC proxy
@jbkalla, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Essentially you're just hiding the heading wherever it appears in the print table of contents. Could you post a description of what you're trying to achieve and your CSS code so the brains trust can have a look?

Re: Language settings for an autonum "Note:"
I take it that the word 'Note' is defined in the stylesheet? When you translate a Flare project in Lingo, you get the opportunity to translate the terms in the stylesheet as well. For example, my xref style reads 'see page x', and in the French stylesheet it's translated as 'consultez la page x'. I ...

Re: Update Local Files button and workflow question
RE number 1, I suspect that all it does is push your latest changes to Madcap Central. Not sure why it's a separate button.
RE number 2, a synchronise is just a pull, then a push. Before you pull you must commit any changes you have, so you must also do this before you synchronise.
