Re: MadCap Flare: Downgrade possible?

You might be able to copy topic files from your 2023 project to overwrite the topic files in the original 2018 project. Topic files don't usually contain any information that's specific to a Flare version (if you haven't used new features). However, project files will be more difficult to handle. If...

Re: MadCap Flare: Downgrade possible?

As far as I know, MadCap haven't documented how to do this - but I think it's worth contacting MadCap support to find out how they would handle this. How difficult it is to fix will depend a lot on exactly what changes you have've made to their project. If your changes make use of any new features i...

Re: PDF Button in the HTML Output

Where you insert the toolbar proxy (in a topic, or template page), you can to choose which buttons to display for that instance of the proxy - and that will override the buttons displayed by default that you set in the skin. So you need to check each place where you insert the proxy, and check what ...

Re: PDF Button in the HTML Output

What PDF button do you mean? Just there isn't a PDF button by default in the skins that you create in Flare - either the Toolbar HTML5 component skin, or the Trpane skin toolbar. So the PDF button must be something custom that you've added - it isn't a reserved/default button in Flare. The preview i...

Re: Autofocus in search bar?

You could do this using JavaScript. For example, somewhere inside the body of the start page, insert a script using Insert > Script and paste the following: $(document).ready(function(){ /* Set focus to search bar in title bar automatically */ $(".title-bar .search-field").focus(); });; Ho...

Re: HTML Toolbar Issues

First, I'd ask whether it has always been broken or was it working previously? If it was working ok before, then what has been changed recently? It's hard to say what's happening. Some of the problems might be caused by settings in the toolbar skin, and some problems might be caused by your styleshe...

To do this, you can add a hyperlink to a "named reference" in the PDF: See the help: https://help.madcapsoftware.com/flare2023r2/Content/Flare/Nav-Links/Named-Destinations/Creating-Named-Destinations.htm#HowtoCreateaLinktoaNamedDestination A "named reference" is just like a bookm...

Re: Can we put Targets in the Content Explorer?

From what I can see, you can copy a TOC but not move it, and you can't copy or move a target (and several other Project files). In a target, you can only select TOCs from the Project folder. So I think being able to copy the TOC into the Content folder is a bug. My advice would be not to mess around...

I already tried your script and it works fine for me in a master page. Re: PDF not using my page layout

The Is there a master page layout setting somewhere? I'm thinking that the PDF targets in question are being output according to some setting with higher precedence. The Primary Page Layout that you can set in the target (or Project Properties) is just the default page layout to use. But you can set...

but this means that we need to manually repost all of the content on our website every year just because the year changes. Re: Single-sourcing images for mobile/web (not PDF)

Glad you found the problem.

I'd suggest reporting that as a bug, because although you can't insert a picture tag, it's a problem if Flare can't recognise all valid HTML when it comes to analysing links.

Re: WYSIWYG question

No you can't change it.
It's just a standard icon in the editor to show it's a drop down, like the Toggler or Expanding Text icons.
It isn't showing the actual icon used - the editor icon points down, the output icon points right.

Re: Single-sourcing images for mobile/web (not PDF)

I've tried your example and it works fine for me in my HTML5 output. But it doesn't work in the preview and displays a missing image. In the XML editor, I see <source></source/><source></source> and a working image (for the img tag). So it looks like Flare's XML Editor will display the srcset images...

Re: TOC used in other TOCs

You can insert a TOC inside another.

Put the topics in two separate TOCs - User (only), Admin (only).

Create a new TOC for target A, then insert both the User and Admin TOCs inside target A's TOC.

Then Target B just uses the Admin TOC, and target C uses the User TOC.

If I copy and paste that full code into a topic, I can find it ok - </span><MadCap:variable name="Custom.Application" /> Assuming the search options are set correctly, then could there be a character between the </span> and <MadCap tags that the editor isn't displaying? To test this: * You...

Re: Is it possible to link to a web-based video that is not YouTube or Vimeo?

No, you can add the video tag to the source. I use video tags like the example code below, to include a track caption/subtitle file (because that's not supported by Flare). <video id="video1" controls=""> <source type="video/mp4" src="Videos/Video1.mp4" /> <tr...

Re: Document index is empty for Web output

You might need to do this: Note For online outputs, creating an index is typically done via a skin. By default, the MadCap style that controls index proxies is set to support only print-based outputs. However, you can change this. To do so, open your stylesheet, select the MadCap|indexProxy style, a...

Re: Is it possible to link to a web-based video that is not YouTube or Vimeo?

You can still just manually insert the video in the same way as you would on any web page.

So if you're hosting the video on your own site (like a mp4 file), then just use a <video> tag and point it to the video URL.

Re: Using topics in multiple projects

Re: Global configuration for targets?

If the targets are completely identical, then you could use a project import (also called global project linking). So you'd have a master/parent project with the target, and each child project would have a project import that imports the target (*.fltar) file. The import can be run manually, or run ...

Re: Scroll from topic to topic in Web output?

There's no way of doing that in Flare itself - getting one topic to automatically join/load the next.

But you could just have one very long topic, and you can set up the TOC to automatically insert the sub-headings from the topic.
