Re: Error: "Build Failed: The directory is not empty"
I usually encounter this error when I've been manually opening a file in my Output folder. For some reason, this seems to sometimes stop Flare from auto-clearing the output folder, even if I have since closed the file. I just close anything relevant that I have open, delete the contents of that targ...

Re: Flare 10 vs GIT
One of the big features of Flare 11 is Git integration. If Git integration is important to you, moving to Flare 11 probably makes a lot of sense. This is the Flare 11 Git Integration guide. If you really cannot move to Flare 11, I stumbled across this guide from 2013 while googling for the Flare 11 ...

Re: Finding missing spaces
This isn't an ideal solution, but it does the trick. I need to create Word output versions of all my content anyway, so I generate my Word output and then run spellcheck inside Word. This catches the spacing issues, but it is definitely a pain. It's a much bigger pain if you have no other reason to ...

Re: Add the word Step before numbering.
Yes, what kwag described is exactly the method that I use to do this. I have a Step style and a Step1 style. It works fine in print and HTML5. One tip is that I found it's a better practice to not use "Step1" for the first step in every topic. That way, if you add another step at the begin...

Re: Cirvumvented: DIV —> LI + Word Target = LI —> newline
A quick update: Madcap support suggested that my use of a DIV to manage page breaks in lists could be supplanted by creating a LI class that included the page-break-inside: avoid attribute. Thanks for sharing this Riley. I had been meaning to help confirm this bug, but got deadlined. That's a great...

Re: How do I assign a default topic?
Hi Doug, I believe the following steps should solve your issue: Open up the target that you are using to generate your web output In the General tab of the target, directly to the right of the Startup Topic field, you'll find a button with an ellipse on it. Click that. Browse to your "Welcome.h...

Re: Publish HTML5 to website
I looked into this for a bit, but didn't end up having to go with it. So, I've never personally tried this, as a disclaimer, but based on my googling skills I thin this should be a decent solution. I was looking into setting up htaccess, which seems to be a pretty simple text file that allows you to...

Re: Exporting individual topics for review?
5) Once the document is published, I push back my Flare content to Google Docs by way of a custom conversion tool. That way, the Google Docs content is synchronized for the next update iteration. I remember that thread from a year or so ago and was wondering off and on how you worked it out. That c...

Re: Flare 11 build process
I'm not having any issues with speed, but I'm having an issue when I use a very large batch target. After about the first 20 targets, some targets just hang on "queued" forever and never start. Working with MadCap support to try to work it out.

Re: Exporting individual topics for review?
Like many people, I send a Word version, and tell the reviewer to disregard formatting issues there. However, I also send along the latest PDF version so that my particularly vigilant/paranoid SMEs or coworkers can check the PDF version to see how the document will actually look in production as thi...

Ugh, that must have been a huge amount of effort.
Incidentally, I found some of those newline "li"s in my word output also the other day. Good times.

Re: For Flare's 10 or 11, latest status of XREFS in Word Tar
Yeah, it's probably a bug with Flare output and word 2007 specifically. Too bad the Word styles trick didn't work for you. I was able to use it to fix the intermittent newlines on my end, but again, Word 2010. It seemed like the functionality was the same, though the Word 2010 style manager window s...

Re: For Flare's 10 or 11, latest status of XREFS in Word Tar
Okay, I think I can help with that Li part anyway (if you haven't already done it manually by now). If not, well, I tried. You can use the Style Inspector (available through the Manage Styles window) to find out exactly what style is being used for your bullet lists. For me it was "List Paragra...

Re: For Flare's 10 or 11, latest status of XREFS in Word Tar
Hrm, odd. I literally just used the mc-format xrefs that I just posted to make functional Word cross-references using Flare 11. Seems to me like you're dealing with a bug here. I suppose I should note that I am using Word 2010. Is there a way you can try it with a more recent Word version than 2007,...

Re: For Flare's 10 or 11, latest status of XREFS in Word Tar
This is my mc-format of my xrefs that work in Word (and both Flare 10 and 11). This is straight from the CSS: mc-format: '{i}{color DodgerBlue}{quote}{paranum} {paratext}{quote}{/color}{/i}{pageref}'; In the Flare editor, the mc-format is as follows: {i}{color DodgerBlue}"{paranum} {paratext}&q...

Re: Adding Feedback widget to topics
Nice, thanks for the tip Dave. It seems this is much easier to do in Flare 11 than 10.
When I finally make the switch to top nav, I'll definitely use this. I -just- got done with the tripane setup, so my time for "overhead/nifty" type stuff like this is limited at the moment.

Thanks for the ideas, Margaret! However My output isn't Webhelp, just PDF and HTML5. I am able to get the link to open a new window with the topic from Product B. The problem is that at the top of that window, it has a confusing link "open topic with navigation", which opens the left-side...

Re: Adding links to topics/bookmarks in other projects
Yes, there is a link to the main manual, but only where it would work/make sense (the Web format and the Main User Manual print document). In the specialized print version of the document, the link can't possibly work because the article isn't a part of the document. So, say you are making a help pa...

Re: Flare 10 Word target is not indenting tables within list
Hrm, for what it's worth, I tried to see if I could find a workaround with a Word-only stylesheet and complex selectors, but whatever I did, those tables would just not move. Looks like this one is pretty much entirely in MadCap's hands to fix from what I can see.

Re: Adding Feedback widget to topics
Okay, so, I think some of Choccie's code got cut off during the copy/pasting process. I think that the closing parens/brackets of the script were cut off, and there may be some issues with making sure that you alternate nesting single quotes and double-quotes. Based on choccie's excellent starting p...

Can't add hyperlink using Javascript?
So, I'm trying to add a script to my Master Page to add a mailto Feedback hyperlink. However, I can add whatever I want, so long as it isn't a hyperlink. I'm still using 10.2.2 until my organization can find the keys that were mailed to us  This is my simple script: <div> <script type="te...
