Re: Is it possible to output a section of the help to PDF?
I make separate PDFs for sections of my help all the time. I have a print TOC that i use to replace the content as needed to make a PDF. then i add the PDf to my online TOC (as a hyperlink). for example, i have online versions of 9 different manuals and at the end of each online version i have a lin...

Re: How to number all footnotes unique in a document?
it looks like it is standard for footnotes to continue automatically. http://webhelp.madcapsoftware.com/flare7/Content/Footnotes/More_About_Editing_Footnotes/Restarting_Footnote_Numbering.htm also, if footnotes are like variables, etc in flare, they probably won't display properly until you generate...

Re: Style for engineering environment - template, stylesheet...
There are sample projects you can use to set up new projects (instead of starting blank) that have different master page layouts, page layouts, etc. Usually (i think), people tend to make templates in flare that match existing company documentation, stead of designing something specifically in flare...

Re: Student tech writer new to MadCap-New project best practices
This is very true. You can look at the standard styles that come in flare (all the css settings before you make any changes), but learning CSS is arguably one of the best things you can do to be good at Flare.seasonedrookie wrote:Undoubtedly, it would be a good learning experience for me to build everything on my own

Re: Table Borders dropping out in CHM output; WebHelp is OK
It's a good lesson that the preview feature within the Flare topic page may not truly represent the actual final compiled output. For this reason, i hardly ever use preview. Especially with bullets/spacing, the WYSIWYG and preview usually look nothing like the outputs, and even Word and PDF outputs...

Re: Question Mark symbol in TOC
The Question Mark symbol is next to topics, as in, topics are supposed to be places where questions are answered in online help. it's more of an icon for topics, like the book icon for chapters/top level toc headings. there are links on the "tour of the flare workspace" in the help that ex...

A toc topic will be converted to a toc book as soon as you put another topic under it (subordinate).

you can use the same license key on 2 computers, as long as you're not using flare at the same time on both.

i don't use auto-numbering, but it could be something about the formatting of the style.

Re: How Do I Remove all Hyperlinks from Printed output?
I have my hyperlink (<a>) styles set to to the same font/size/color/etc as my regular text in my print medium. technically they are still hyperlinks, but unless someone is reading word for word with the mouse pointed at each word, he won't know the text can be clicked.

What kind of output are you making? the mc-heading-level applies to TOCproxies and miniTOCproxies. i was suggesting that you only physically add the appropriate headings to your TOC (for webhelp/online). here is some information in the help about TOC/miniTOC proxies. (i have to leave work now, but i...

Re: Requirement to display 2 TOC levels and 4 miniTOC levels
To get only 2 levels in your TOC, only include 2 levels there. I think the miniTOC will include any headings below the current heading (if you put the miniTOCproxy under an H1, H2, H3, etc will be included; if you put the miniTOCproxy under an H2, only H3, H4, etc will be included). If you use vario...

You will have to publish your help document to a webserver and supply the link to your users. Here is the section in the Flare help that explains how to distribute your output:

You can't split a table like you can in Word. You will have to insert a new table (even just 1 row) and then move the old rows to the new table. you can move full rows at a time by dragging the <tr> tag on the left of the editor in the "ruler" (view tags) area. http://webhelp.madcapsoftwar...
