Re: WebHelp Skin Woes
1. The toolbar icons have disappeared and the logo that I inserted in place of the MadCap logo also doesn't appear. There was a bug in the first version of Flare 3.0 that meant all of the icons disappeared from the toolbar if you included any custom buttons of your own. If you're using the latest u...

Re: Flare WYSIWYG and actual output
I would definitely test your help in as many browsers as you can, and ensure that it works ok. You need to design your help so that it looks ok for everyone (or as many as possible). If it doesn't work for some people then really that's your own fault for poor design. At the end of the day, the majo...

Re: Flare WYSIWYG and actual output
Is there a list somewhere of what is shown on screen in either the WYSIWYG or the XML Editor and what is output? I don't know of a list, but you'll find that there are differences in what you'll see in the XML editor, the preview, the internal browser preview, and the final output. The XML editor i...

Re: Custom topic template: 1st Heading strangeness
Basically, none of the heading options seem to work if you have anything in your template file in between the <body> tag and <h1> tag - i.e. the you can't have any content above the heading.

Ok
If the raw content must be produced using Word, then it limits things a bit more.
Back to your initial question, I'm not aware that Flare can convert particular styles in a Word document to drop-downs, as your existing system can.

Kind of
rather than produce word documents that are converted to help, you could write the content in Flare and output it to both help and Word (for PDF) formats.

Change the .xml file extension?
Flare modifies XML files with a .xml extension, but it will leave files alone if they have a different file extension.
I tested this by changing the extension of a XML file and it was included in the target unmodified.
Would your system work using different filename extensions to .xml?

I was talking about topics (HTM files), not XML files.
I thought you were including this copyright comment to topics (not XML files), as you mentioned adding it above the HTML tag, which wouldn't be in your XML files. My post was about adding the copyright comment to the master page, which will include it on all your topics - i.e. the HTM files in the o...

I can include that copyright without any problem.
I put this in my master page and it worked fine - it appeared in the output HTM files. <?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"utf-8\"?> <!-- Copyright 2006-2007 by ActiVia Networks, Inc. All Rights Reserved. --> <html xmlns:MadCap=\"http://www.madcapsof... Just to check, you have ...

For the copyright question...
are you adding it to the individual files or the master page?
Stuff I've added to my master pages is usually left intact.

Setting up lists
For my project, I wanted to use nested lists and bullets which use different list and bullet styles. I tried out a few methods of formatting my lists (including creating numerous ol, ul and li classes), but I found that by far the best way to set them up was to use 'complex selectors'. Despite the n...

I agree
I'm using WebHelp, and I chose not to use DotNetHelp precisely because of the branding - it's far too imposing and isn't professional looking. It's what I'd expect to see if I'd used a cheap bit of shareware, not a professional tool.

Ok
I would still tend to include that in the stylesheet, e.g. have a span class defining the colour.
I've done this because if I need to change the colour later, it's just a change to one reference in the stylesheet, and not changing 1000s of bits of inline formatting in the topics.

You cannot name them.
One question though, and it might seem strange... Why do your authors need to select colours? In my projects, the stylesheet defines all the formatting I need to use in the project. I never need to manually apply any formatting (including colours), I just apply the appropriate style (which defines t...

I used this (slightly hacky) solution
1. Open the registry and browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\MadCap Software\\Flare\\Default 2. Open the string CustomColors This is the list of custom colours in Flare. 3. Edit the string to include the colours you want. This is in the format #<colour 1 hex value>;#<colour 2 hex value> etc e.g....
