Re: Best practice single source

I didn't know you could do that... absolutely brilliant!
Thanks a bunch... Alison

Re: Best practice single source

Thank you. I'm fairly relaxed about that... Adding a topic or two to two or three To six seems a small price to pay. Alison

Re: Best practice single source

I'm doing something similar... and I just want to run it past people with more experience before I get too far into it all. I have: One large Flare project (only just migrating, so not that large yet) So far, 3 PDF outputs (different products) and 3 HTML outputs (for each of the products) - HTML is ...

Re: FIXED: Variables in PDFs - how they look

OK, thank you. I understand know. Yes, it would work... but (I forgot to say this) the product names are NOT purple on the odd occasion they pop up in headings. So I'd end up with having to insert the variable when plain, insert the snippet when purple. I'd remember, but I think insert the variable ...

Re: FIXED: Variables in PDFs - how they look

@ AlexFox... Probably just showing my ignorance of CSS here... are you talking about something that would automatically be applied to the variable without having to physically apply the class each time? If so, that would be even better. I will investigate further.

Re: SOLVED: Best way to display code listings

This will be very obvious to any experienced Flare users. It may not be the 'best' way, but after the trial and error I was hoping to avoid :D I have a solution that works for me. Sharing in the interests of helping out other newbies. If figures/screenshots are not in steps, they are numbered and h...

Re: Variables in PDFs - how they look

@ChoccieMuffin - the big problem for me with using a snippet instead of a variable is that there would be a lot of very careful conditional text going on in said snippet. Using a variable means I can set the values in the target. This is pretty much essential, as I only work sporadically for this cl...

FIXED: Variables in PDFs - how they look

Hi. I use a variable called prodname to hold the product name - needed because the same topics are used by the product (one of many) that the document is for but also OTHER component products are mentioned so we can't get away with not using the product name. Some of the product names aren't great i...

SOLVED: Best way to display code listings

Hi, I'm new to Flare and am converting legacy FrameMaker documents. In the FrameMaker document are a lot of tables, used to hold computer code listings (all formatted with fixed-width font) and all with captions (using FrameMakers "table caption" facility). Images are also in borderless ta...

Re: Reference from parent project to child possible?

Brilliant... thank you very much, both of you. I've been a while replying as I've been trying it out. I originally was thinking of two different global projects so that those products that DON'T use the shared topics (as opposed to the generic topics that ALL products use) don't need to even go ther...

Re: Reference from parent project to child possible?

Meant to say... unless I've misunderstood, I think my alternative is to have a single large Flare project, with far more conditions on which to base my targets. Something like this (these are supposed to be folders...): Product 1 Product 2 Product 3 Product 4 Product 5 Product 6 Shared app 1 Shared ...

Reference from parent project to child possible?

Hi, I'm a new Flare user, so please bear with me... We have six products, each with both online help and PDF manuals, each with variants for different operating systems. I'm ignoring the help for the purposes of this question description, as it's probably not relevant, but have mentioned just in cas...
