Re: Convert a DoctoHelp project to Flare

Easily? NOT! Any conversion from another HAT product is almost always labor-intensive, particularly if the documentation source is heavily formatted and has been worked on by some less-than-accomplished writers. Make a copy and test converting it, to see what needs to be cleaned up in the source (th...

In the Target window (RH Layout), General tab, select a topic in the Startup Topic field. Obviously, you must have previously created the topic. :wink:

More than likely, you'll need some additional transparent pixels on the right side of your icons.

Re: Errors when viewing help in IE

I just checked the Flare KB, and there is no System Requirements document going back to Flare 5.

My guess, however, is that Flare 5 does not support Windows 7 (especially if using IE 9). You could try IE 8 (with Compatibility Mode off); that might work.

Re: Breadcrumb path displays Content Explorer file location?

Use a redirect topic for your other TOC location(s). Create a New topic, make it blank, and add this line in the HEAD section of the code: <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;URL=<path>/original_topic.htm" /><title>Original Topic Title</title> "path" would be used for...

Re: missing file madcap.css

After selecting "whole project," you must click the Start button (also in the Options panel). Once the full-project Find has been "Start"ed, you can then continue with the Find Next or Replace button. As you get to the last replacement in a topic, nothing happens; you must click ...

Does the code look like this:

Code: Select all

<MadCap:variable name="MyVariableSet.MyFirstVariable" />
Is the MyVariableSet.flvar file located in your project's Project\VariableSets folder?

Re: TableStyle is being reset by table "class"

Looking back at your initial post, I was struck by: I brought a bunch of TableStyles together from various projects and put them in the TableStyles folder. Might these be table styles you copied from Flare 7 or older, instead of bringing them in through the Flare conversion process? Have you looked ...

Re: TableStyle is being reset by table "class"

Do you have a line similar to this in the HEAD section for each and every table style in the topic?

Code: Select all

<link href="Resources/TableStyles/MyTable.css" rel="stylesheet" MadCap:stylesheetType="table" />

Re: TableStyle is being reset by table "class"

No, the class is a Flare-specific reiteration of the style, and should not be blank. For example: <table style="mc-table-style: url('Resources/TableStyles/MyTable.css');caption-side: top;margin-left: 0;margin-right: auto;" class="TableStyle-MyTable" cellspacing="0"> Not...

Re: Conditional Javascript

The Flare help doesn't specifically say not to use spaces, in either the Tag Set or Tag names, but all of their examples are single terms with camel case. So I guess I'd try renaming the "Version Control" tag set to "VersionControl" to see what happens. (I've always followed that...

Re: Fun with lists -- Ordered vs Unordered

Tip: To repair your existing lists, you're best served by unbinding them first, which reduces them to regular paragraphs. (Right click the ul and ol "blocks" and select the Unbind option.) Then follow the instructions in the last paragraph in my previous post. Tip2: To un-number/bullet an ...

Re: Fun with lists -- Ordered vs Unordered

First of all, any nested list styling is negated when you end the outer list before starting the inner list; ain't gonna work! The /ol ul lines ensure that the ul will not be nested inside the ol list. The easiest way is to mostly forget about li and p classes, and just set up the structure, for sta...

Re: Create a tip or note box with an image

If your users don't use IE 8 in Compatibility Mode (or IE 7), or if they use other browsers, you could simply add the :before pseudo-element to your styles. See http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/sel_before.asp for instructions.

That should be a relative path; if your mycss.css file is in your Content folder, then the only thing in the Stylesheet field would be mycss.

Re: Style(s) for an xml sample

There's no easy way, but this one works. Create a pre ( pre serve white space) style in your style sheet, such as: pre.codeblock { font-family: "Courier New", monospace; font-size: 8pt; line-height: 1.1em; margin-left: 10px; padding-left: 10px; margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; paddin...

FAR ( http://helpware.net/FAR/help/hh_start.htm ) is a top-notch Find/Replace tool. Not only can you work with regular expressions, but you can combine them with user-defined variables (such as for replacing start and end text but retaining what's in between). You can maintain Saved File Lists and S...
