Re: Handling broken cross-references in PDFs
Hi Nita, Thanks very much for that. I was just looking at the help about how to "unbind" a hyperlink with a condition. I was not aware of it before so thanks. Do you have to do this manually for each existing cross-reference or is there some way you can set the exclude action to unbind for...

Handling broken cross-references in PDFs
Hi there, Typically, we generate our output in a HTML format and each topic contains cross-references to other topics. However, sometimes we get asked to provide a subset of our content in PDF format. So if Topic A has a cross-reference to Topic B, we might get asked to provide a PDF that only conta...

Re: Please help! Managing multiple styles
Hi Jennifer, I am far from an expert, but my thoughts are below: Some writers might like to create their own styles rather than customizing the defaults. In the case of list items, creating new styles might provide more flexibility than the defaults. However, it is perfectly fine to customize the de...

Re: Having an issue using Elasticsearch
I was looking forward to being able to implement ElasticSearch, but because it does not work on the Edge browser by default currently (unless users run a command from the command line), it is not something we can deliver to our customers unfortunately.

Re: Third-party search engines
Our team would be really interested in implementing a third-party search engine also. There was someone on the forums that was looking into integrating the search engine from this company: https://www.wrensoft.com/zoom/ , but I am not sure how far they got with it.

Setting the width of a Note to its content
Hi there, I have a note that is implemented using a div. I would like the width of this div to automatically adjust itself to fit the content included in it. I thought the easiest way of doing this might be to use display: inline-block in the css of the note. So the css of the note would be: div.not...

Re: Does jQuery work differently in Flare 2017 R2
It looks like jQuery does work in that this script will remove Home links, but previously this script was able to remove a Home link that displayed in one of the menus in the top navigation area.

Does jQuery work differently in Flare 2017 R2
Hi all, I had a small jquery script in the previous release of Flare but I have just noticed that it is not working anymore. Does anyone have any idea if you need to do something different when referencing jquery in Flare 2017 r2? The script is included in a master page and is as follows: <script> <...

Automatically close a drop down when you open another
Hi there, We have included a number of drop-downs in our content using the Madcap | dropDown style. When I open many drop-downs they all stay open unless I manually close each of them. This makes the screen look very busy because there is a lot of content displaying. Does anyone know of a way to set...

Re: Topic title/TOC syncing not working in Flare 2017?
Hi, does anyone else find that the build time for a target is substantially slower when the topic titles are synced with the TOC? It previously took about 15 minutes to build a target but with the synchronization on, it is taking about an hour.

Hi, I actually logged a ticket with Flare support about this. Here is there response: "Flare's XML editor does not allow more than a single space to be inserted when adding with a spacebar click. However, you can add multiple spaces in a row through the Insert > Insert Character > "Non-bre...

Markup Suggestions report questions
Hi there, I ran the Analyzer report on Markup Suggestions and I just have a few basic questions: Is there any way to avoid introducing multiple spaces when writing in the XML editor of Flare? We normally write our content in the XML editor and the only way these spaces seem to show up is in the text...

View conditions applied to topics in a TOC
Hi there, If I apply a condition to a topic, Content Explorer allows you to show condition indicators to indicate the condition associated with the topic. Is it possible for the TOC to show condition indicators for conditions applied at topic level? I know the TOC can show condition indicators for c...

Re: TopNav side menu - indicate the parent links
Yes, it would definitely be great if there was a way for an item in the side menu to indicate if it had child topics, especially if you have a lot of content in your project. If you figure out a way of doing it, please update this thread. Would it even help if (in your example), the child topics dis...

Thanks for this. I tried in html output. For some reason, the row borders seem to disappear on some rows. For example, before the sort, the table looks like the image below labelled "Before sorting the table". beforesort.PNG However, after I sort Heading 1, the Zebra and Dog rows lost the ...

Re: Removing glossary term defs from search result abstract
Hi there, Just to let you know, Flare support confirmed that this is a bug. Unfortunately, this means that we will have to drop using glossary term links in our output because we need readable search result abstract text. We don't have time manually fix this for each topic by putting in meta descrip...

MadCap | dropDown style and the display: none property
Hi all,
Does the "MadCap | dropDown" style with the "display: none" property set work in a Medium: print?
This property seems to work in the default medium for HTML output but not in the print medium for our PDF output.
thanks,
mark

Re: Example: Customising the HTML5 tripane skin
Hi Dave, Thanks very much for this post, really good. I just have a minor question. I wanted to add an external link to the logo and I found another post of yours on how to do this with some jQuery script. So I opened the skin Toolbar tab, and clicked Edit and added the following additional code: $(...
