Scripting - Listening for search results to load
MadCap has an article explaining how to wait for dynamic menus to load before running your own script ( http://kb.madcapsoftware.com/Content/Misc/GEN1022Z_-_Using_JavaScript_to_Alter_Topic_Menus.htm ). Does anyone know how to modify this to wait for search results to load? I’ve tried numerous variat...

Re: Flare 2018 changes Capture styles
We've also reported this to MadCap support. Our callout text has disappeared entirely. Oddly enough, if you open the image file separately (even from the HTML5 output folder), the callouts display properly. So the issue is solely on the display side, possibly related to the default styleshee...

The page itself says compatible with 2017 r2 and higher, so you should be fine. They are very nice templates.

Re: Change color of selected topnav menu item
Did any of you succeed in doing this? Marketing wants us to highlight the first-level menu item that the selected topic falls under. Ex:
I'm at a total loss on how to make that happen within the constraints of Flare.

Re: Integrating output with Zendesk (or similar)
Have any of you successfully set up a system for transferring content from Flare to Zendesk? Our support team is going to be using Zendesk Guide as a sort of "lite" help site for common topics, quick answers, etc. It would definitely be useful to port select common content from Flare.

Hi Folks, I noticed this post and wanted to let everyone know that this specific behavior has been resolved since Flare V8 and reverified that it is still fixed in Flare 2017 r3. If you are experiencing similar issues please do not hesitate to contact Support and provide your projects. Support Inqu...

Thanks for sharing! Quite a bit of work to overcome the deficiencies of Edge. Thanks for the detailed write-up, Casey. This might be the exact info I need to give a client's developers for whom we're having a similar issue as your original issue. No problem! I remember responding to another questio...

Re: CSH links not working in Microsoft Edge
We are running into a similar problem on Windows. We have been using HTML5 help with our own Qt panel that serves up the pages with QWebKit (this because we run on Windows, Mac, and Linux, so use Qt for our GUI). The panel was axed recently due to some other software problems, so now we are going w...

Re: Topic.css overriding my dropdown styles
Theoretically, the styles you create and/or modify *should* override topics.css. That being said, I've seen oddball cases where topics.css takes precedent for an unknown reason (support can't even give me a clear answer on that). In those cases, I will add an !important declaration to the end of eac...

Re: moving the search bar into the header
Thanks Casey. It moved the Search bar to the right, but its still underneath the nav menu. Thanks for the suggestion. Like I said, you'll probably need to switch it to float left instead of right, and then add a left margin to compensate for the logo. Also, your margin-top will vary depending on th...

Re: moving the search bar into the header
I'm testing a new design where I used CSS to move the search bar to the top right corner (where the hamburger menu usually is - my top nav menu is hidden). You could probably do something similar; just float left and add appropriate margins. Here's the style I modified: .search-bar { float: right; m...

Re: Including .chms linked in master TOC in search results
Gotcha. That's definitely a setup I haven't seen before, but it seems pretty useful. Unfortunately (having only worked with standalone .chms), I'm not sure how to approach your search issue without combining the files. But hopefully someone else chimes in with an idea! You could also try Flare suppo...

Re: Including .chms linked in master TOC in search results
The strength is that search results show what screen the help is found on because each screen is its own chm. Can you expand on what you mean by this? Off the top of my head, if I'm understanding you correctly, I would say that the topic title (as displayed in the search results) should suffice to ...

Re: Including .chms linked in master TOC in search results
Are you particularly attached to having multiple .chm files? If you only use a single master .chm, you can set up context-sensitive links to call the correct page for each function. That would solve your search problem, and make the output easier to maintain (while still keeping the F1 help for each...

Roll back the Windows Fall Creators Update, if you have it. Not anything in Flare. All Flare versions seem to be similarly incompatible with that Windows update.cayennep wrote:sorry, but how to 'roll back the update'?
Flare doesn't usually accommodate this so wonder how that's done?

Someone else can correct me if things have changed recently, but I'm pretty sure this is not currently possible in Flare. Re: autonumber in image captions does not increment correctl
I've seen this issue with regular chapter numbers in PDFs. Even though your issue is with HTML5 output, I think the Chapter Break and Auto-number settings in the TOC are still controlling the numbering system. To check this: Open the HTML5 TOC and view the properties of the first topic in each chapt...

Re: Flare 12 64 Bit version Slow?
If your version of Flare has just now become slow, there are two things that come to mind immediately based on recent comments/experience: - Nita Beck found that the Fall Creator's update caused a significant amount of lag. She solved this by rolling back the update. - My coworker does not have the ...

Re: Table problem: each row starts new page
Do you have any page-break-avoid attributes in your stylesheet? And if so, are those styles used in the table? I've seen this in print TOCs - if everything doesn't fit on one page, the TOC prints one line per page until it all fits.

Re: Unwanted change to top nav after editing styles
Changing the font size of anything (body, p, li, etc.) that affects the top menu could do it. If this is the only issue you are seeing, it's probably not that you 'messed up' something. It's more likely that one of your conversions made the font a bit larger, pushing the menu to two lines. If you do...
