Re: PDF / Printed cover (again)
I think this is where it is going wrong, in your first line: "I have this CoverLayout applied to all pages". Clear that setting from your topics in the TOC, then create a dedicated title page topic if you haven't got one already. Add this title page topic at the top of your TOC, and apply ...

Re: Image print size issue
I use Capture a lot, but it doesn't crash. Possibly there is something else triggering that in your environment. Are crashes random, or related to an action, e.g. always crashes on capture, or always when adding an object?

Re: Auto-size to fit text truncates words
Hi Isabelle, let's hope a fix comes for it soon. Unfortunately Capture doesn't seem to get much love, which is a shame. I tried doing just the space thing also, and that didn't seem to work for me (still truncates). I agree, the complexity of ensuring that a workaround flows through correctly to you...

Re: Auto-size to fit text truncates words
I think this is probably a bug, so your best option might be to submit it to MadCap Support. I found that this happens with single-word captions. A workaround might be to ensure all your captions are multiple words... not a great workaround, I admit, and no guarantee that a short caption won't shrin...

Re: Hover images hidden by header
I assume you are using topnav? I had this issue with popup images from thumbnails in topnav. It is a known bug. There is an associated issue with hyperlinks to content near the top of the target page. This was my explanation to MadCap Support: When Fixed Header is set to All, pop-up images near the ...

Re: Change capture contrast
Capture doesn't provide this kind of function. It's main focus is adding callouts. It does provide tools for recolouring parts of a capture, but not fro overall contrast or brightness. To process an image for contrast, you need to do that first in a standard image editor, then bring the capture back...

Re: Tiny Icons and Overlapping Settings Fields
It does sound like a display/resolution issue. Are your displays set to the recommended resolution for each display, and is Windows set to 100% scaling? There is a snap to grid setting that will make dragging objects jerky, but in a regular way. You can turn this on and off in the Grid menu in the l...

Re: Flare 2017 r2 on which Windows 10 flavor?
I'm running Flare on Windows 10 Home. I think that anything that runs on Home will run on Pro. The updates you mention are system updates that are pushed out online by MS. They are not platforms as such, so don't worry about them. When you install Win10, you'll get applicable updates pushed to you. ...

Re: Font changes to bold unexpectedly
Thanks for the info, paintedturtle, I didn't know that one. It seems to be an industry bug. I hope MadCap are still developing Capture; I love the integration with Flare, but I don't really love the tool. Snagit runs rings around it these days.

Re: Border when capturing the active window
This is an old post, but did you find the answer? I think this is a downside of active window capture, could well be a bug or maybe poor design. As a workaround, you can use Ctrl+Shift+W, and then indicate the window that you want to capture. Capture grabs just the window without the drop shadow bor...

Re: Annotation text too bold
Hi Eileen. You haven't done anything wrong, it's a bug. (Details here: https://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=12293) As a workaround, give your callouts a solid background instead of transparent - it's the transparency attribute directly on the canvas (checkerboard) that causes t...

Re: Font changes to bold unexpectedly
I submitted a bug report about this in 2014. It was accepted with ID #30612. I don't think it has been fixed, the problem is still visible in the latest version of Capture. However, Capture hasn't been updated for a while, unfortunately it doesn't seem to get much love at MadCap. A similar bug has e...

Re: Vertical Align Text in a Div Tag
For online output, vertical centering can be achieved with Flexbox (mentioned in the link that Psider posted). Flexbox is simple to use, but: It is CSS3, which might be an issue for older browser support You have to code it manually in your stylesheet (easy to do, there are loads of cheatsheets arou...

Re: Context-Sensitive Cross-References: page number issue
Hi Robyn
You just need to adjust the xref format for each medium that you use. If you use {b}{h1}{/b} {pageref} for your print medium, you can use {b}{h1}{/b} for your HTML medium. The automatic stuff happens after that

Re: props file, quality and reduction or size
Can you give a bit more detail about why you have to move the props file for your nightly builds? Is there a CMS or change control system involved? I think the props file is an internal function of Capture. Although it is XML based, I think only Capture knows what to do with it, so if you edit a Cap...

Re: Text Box and Opacity: Bug?
Update : MadCap have accepted this as a bug: #121484 . They said that the intended behavior is that the text should always take the same transparency setting as the background, so as per the top text box in the image above. However, they recognize that users might prefer to be able to separate the ...

Text Box and Opacity: Bug?
If this is a bug, I will submit it. I don't think it has been discussed here yet, so in the meantime, I have found a workaround and I thought I'd share it here... For "on-image" captions that I apply in Capture, I sometimes use a text box with a white background (to stop the text disappear...

Re: Inc/Exclude Capture's conditions per-topic like snippets
Hi Sofie I don't think it is possible to use conditions in that way in Capture. The approach I would take is to use profiles. You can set up a profile to contain just the shapes that you need. You can then apply that profile to an image in Capture (using the option to replace existing shapes). The o...

Re: Newbie Capture Profile question
Hi Janet In addition to Paul's advice on profiles and palettes, you can use object styles. This lets you pull the style of an object from a palette, and apply it to the selected object in your image. To set it up, put your bubble with a blue border on a palette (put the red one there too if you need...

Re: CSS in Flare shows Flex property as invalid
Hi Anjana Yes, I use flexbox and I get an error message. I just ignore it. As you say, the flexbox CSS displays correctly in output. The preview function in Flare also works ok, to assist you while working. I expect this is normal, flexbox only reached candidate recommendation status last month, so ...

Re: Wrapping Between Topics: Newbie help
Unfortunately flexbox isn't yet supported in Flare. If you write the CSS code yourself in your Flare project, it will work in HTML5 output, but not in PDF output. For PDF you need to go back to floats (if you want elements side-by-side) and make sure you clear them as devjoe says.

Hi George, this is indeed a setting that can be set to make editing easier in image-heavy projects. You can turn it on or off in the Show Tags drop-down menu in the local toolbar - here is the help page that explains it: http://help.madcapsoftware.com/flare12/Content/Images/Editing_Images/Showing_Im...
