Re: "Update your browser" prompt - Internet Explorer
MadCap is not the inventor of the CHM Viewer. Microsoft is. MadCap just bundles it with Flare. Given that MadCap has no control over it, and given that (I don't think) Microsoft has made any updates to the viewer -- for years -- I don't think you're going to be able to solve this for CHM (HTML) outp...

Re: Project Size Limitations?
Apparently Central has been having issues the last few days. Over the Flare Slack community, there's been a fair bit of discussion. This morning (March 10), Jen Morse of MadCap posted this to that discussion: Hi Everyone! Last night development pushed an update to Central that addressed an issue cau...

Re: Contents page using toc.proxy keeps generating 2 pages
Welcome to the forums!
I would check to see if p.TOC1, etc., have a page break property as part of their definitions. That might be coming into play, and Flare “tries its best” to honor that, which sometimes yields wonky results such as yours.

Re: HTML5 search not highlighting all terms
Check your stylesheet. I suspect that your stylesheet defines only span.SearchHighlight1. Make sure that you have styles for span.SearchHighlight2 through span.SearchHighlight 10 as well (assuming you want to go that far). You could have a different background color for each one, or just set them al...

Re: Template Import Question
I respectfully disagree about copying files over from one project to another in the Windows file explorer. You are bound to get link errors that way, and it'd be easy too to miss some files. I think doing a project import in Flare is your best bet. But first, were I doing this, I'd go into the templ...

Re: Adding hints to search field
I see. I think that you can accomplish this with a custom solution involving a script (and maybe some CSS, too?) that would supply and position the popup. This would be totally out of the Flare box. I don't readily have anything to share, but I'm reminded of a popup that I had to maintain for a clie...

Re: Every PDF build I get "You need a PDF Viewer to.."
I’d try reinstalling foxit, on the theory that then Flare would “recognize” it as your PDF viewer.

Re: Adding hints to search field
I don’t think you can add hints directly to the search bar, as you envision. Rather, you can create a custom Search Results page and then add the hints to that page, probably at the top of the page. I’m pretty sure that this is what MadCap themselves do for their Search Results page in the Flare Hel...

Re: Unlink Links in PDF Output
You can achieve this by creating a condition called something like “Unbind” and then creating a custom class of a in your stylesheet to use with the hrefs you want to “unlink”. For the CSS, you’d have something like a.Unbind (I’m going on memory, so that might not be exactly valid) and associate tha...

Re: Maximum Entries for Flare Glossaries?
I am pretty sure, yes. But, just to be sure, create a second glossary file and throw a few terms in it, then make sure that your target uses both glossary files and then build. I’m fairly certain you’ll see the few new terms included. Yes, I’m hedging by saying “pretty sure” and “fairly certain,” bu...

Re: Maximum Entries for Flare Glossaries?
I don’t know if there’s a limit per se, but you’re hitting a performance issue because of the length of your file. As glossary entries have been added to the file over time, Flare has added them to the end of the file (I’m pretty sure), which you can observe in the internal text editor. But when Fla...

Re: Aligning index columns when there's a "header"
“Picky” should be every tech writer’s middle name. Have you tried the “Collapse top margin” option in your PDF target? https://help.madcapsoftware.com/flare2022r2/Content/Flare/Step4-Developing-Targets/Output-Types/PDF-Output/Collapsing-Top-Margins.htm I see there’s a note (a caveat) at the bottom o...

Re: Heading auto-numbers WITHOUT using stylesheets
Welcome to the forums! :) IMHO, you should still use stylesheets. I think setting up variables is too complex for this situation. And, as you say, variables aren't going to increment. MadCap designed its auto-numbers to serve that purpose. A common practice in your situation is to have there be a pr...

Re: Delimiter requirements for "Paste Table"?
How about having the s/w devs write the tables in Markdown and then import the Markdown files into Flare? I've never done this myself, but Flare 2022 r2 (maybe earlier?) supports this workflow. See https://help.madcapsoftware.com/flare2022r2/Content/Flare/Importing/Other-Applications-Files/Markdown/...

Re: Unwanted files in output
Welcome to the forums! :) Not a bug. Rather, you need to set a certain target option. In your target, on the Advanced tab, look for the Content to include dropdown. Select the Content linked directly from the TOC option. That will keep out any topic that is not on your TOC. I suspect the factory tem...

Re: How do I create a cross-reference to a numbered step?
No need to apologize. You're not bothering me at all. Alas, I'm not an accessibility expert, and I've not updated my original solution. All I know is what I said most recently above, that the solution involving using paragraphs with auto-numbers in lieu of true numbered list items is very likely not...

Re: Multiple H1s in a topic but not incrementing
Try using {n+} instead of {chapnum}. I’ve never tried that, though, so can’t predict the results, and I’d be on the lookout for unintended consequences. But it might work out just fine. The incrementing within a single topic will likely work as you’re hoping. I just don’t know how this’ll work with ...

Re: Multiple H1s in a topic but not incrementing
Welcome to the forums! :) To the best of my knowledge, the {chapnum} number that Flare calculates is based on the properties of TOC entries for which (1) a chapter break has been set and (2) the auto-number is explicitly set to a number or set to remain the same as the previous or set to increment. ...

So I am definitely encountering this issue and was actually made aware of it by a customer of ours who uses our online help. We use the HTML5 side nav skin and toolbartopic skin component with the built-in print button enabled, and I'm using Chrome Version 107.0.5304.107 (Official Build) (64-bit).....

Re: SCORM 2004 Build Failed
I as mentioned above, Flare might be hitting the limit when it first gathers and COPIES all the source files needed by the target and puts them in the Output\<your name>\Temporary folder. So it's not so much how longyour individual source files' names are. It's what the full path is to them in that ...

Re: SCORM 2004 Build Failed
Yes, I’d expect. In my recent experience, we hit the issue with an image being called by a page layout. Well actually that was just the symptom. The cause was a too long target name.
