Can't get {pageref} to work in Word output

Post by Paul Griffiths »

No matter what I do, {pageref} in a cross-reference only ever evaluates to "on page X", never any of the other options like "below" or "on the next page". I've checked that I'm using the print medium and my customised MadCap|xref.myclass styles are definitely being picked up, but still no joy.

Flare 2017 R1, Word 2010 - I'm using MasterPages rather than Page Layouts but surely that shouldn't matter?

Anyone else having this problem?

Not sure that Word is able to do "on next page" as part of a cross-ref, so it might be a limitation of Word.

Thanks, CM. Suspected that might be the case. Flare Help says the feature is supported in Word output, though. *sigh*

Was just wondering rather than stating it as a fact.

Check that you're using the "smart" x-refs for the medium that you use for your Word output, as you can have different "flavours" of x-ref in different mediums.

I know that Word can use above/below in cross references but I've not tried them.
If you tell me the format of your Flare cross ref I could test it out for you (I usually use hyperlinks rather than cross refs and so don't have one set up to try).
Also, it shouldn't make any difference that you use master pages rather than page layouts for this.
