PDF sizes (MBs) seem much bigger than they were when making PDFs from Word Docs. Anyone experienced this? Found a solution?

So I am not sure if the lack of response means that no-one has a solution/suggestion or no-one has a problem with their pdf file sizes

The only three times I have experienced pdf file size issues in the past 8 years using Flare have been:
1. down to overly high resolution images included - the solution to which involved altering some of my preferred image rules;
2. to fit within ZenDesk file limits routinely required me to zip files at one company before making them available through a support portal;
3. to fit a customer's file transfer limits once required post processing the file in Adobe Acrobat to narrow the range of Adobe Reader compatability and slightly degrade images, for the sake of a small file.
