Compilation Issues

Post by svaishnav »

Hi,

I have imported FM files (FM book), added a stylesheet and a master page and TOC (with links) to my project. I tried generating a FM ouput. The compilation went on for more than 3 hrs and then also I had to cancel the compilation as it couldn't complete the compilation. Can anybody please help me in identifiying the reason why is this taking so long?

What versions of Flare and Framemaker are you using?

I thought maybe you were using FM8, then I was going to direct a patch from the MadCap knowledgebase.

Are you building to a local drive or a networked drive?

Make sure that you're not trying to build the output to the same file name and location as the file you imported (especially if you have Flare set up to automatically reimport when building).

If you create a test project with Flare application help sample, are you able to generate FM output with that, or does it also take a long time?

Hi Lisa,

Thanks a lot for all your support. Today I upgraded my Flare version to 3.1 and the issue was resolved within minutes. It took 5 to 7 minutes to compile the same help. This means that there was some issue with 2.5 version.

Hi Shalini,

Thanks for letting us know it all worked out!

As Lisa suggested, performance is markedly better if your source and destination are on the local hard drive, if you are using network locations you might want to move everything local for even faster compilation.
