If you're single sourcing then you probably want to go with xrefs. You don't have as much flexibility with hyperlinks regarding the text in print output, but xrefs you can stylize one way for online output and a different way for print output, including the text to include. It is faster to insert a hyperlink, but it's only a few extra keystrokes to insert a xref, but it's better in the long run for the reason stated above.
