Mass indexing with exceptions

Post by msun84 »

Good afternoon,

Is there a way to tell flare to index the whole document and to create some sort of 'exception' table (to avoid terms like "the, and, so, to, etc")?
I've tried the indexing features like the Index Entry Mode, but doing it term by term will take forever!

Is there a faster way to do this?

Short answer, no (not thet I'm aware of).

Thinking about it, it would be very hard to automate index creation - that's why there are specialist indexers. Any given index term must occur heaps of times in any project.

That having been said, you can add a feature request here.

Also remember that a good index contains synonyms (e.g. if you used the word "image" throughout your document and a reader is thinking "picture" instead, by applying synonyms you can help the user find the correct topics even though they aren't using the same terminology you are). An automated system would not be able to do that.

Plus, there are times that a term does appear but you don't want to index it (such as when you just mention it in passing).

An index is not the same thing as a search. Indexes should be more carefully thought out.
Until next time....
