Numbered prefixes on folder names
We have a very large project structured in a similar way to the software application menus. We use numbered prefixes on the folder names to keep the folders in a particular order - for example, 10_Trading, 20_Explorer. The problem of course is that the prefixes go through to the output on the breadcrumbs and on the folder names. Of course, we could adjust the TOC and take away the numbered prefixes - but because we have such a large project the easiest way to create our TOC is to update the topics and then before building drag the whole folder structure over to create the TOC. Forcing the order on the folders helps during the authoring process as well. So, finally getting to the point, does anybody know of a way to exclude numbered prefixes from breadcrumbs and folder names without customising the TOC. And, if we do have to customise the TOC - will the prefixes go from the breadcrumbs as well? Any help / advice appreciated.
Re: Numbered prefixes on folder names
The breadcrumbs pull their info from the TOC, not from the folder names containing the topics. Unless by folder names you meant "books" in the TOC. And if so, then no, you can't exclude part of the text from the breadcrumb. If the "book" in the TOC is titled "10_Trading", then the breadcrumb will display 10_Trading. If the "book" only displays "Trading", then the breadcrumb only displays Trading.
So you can name the folders in your project any way you want -- it's the TOC that controls the breadcrumbs, and the order of books and topics in the TOC is totally customized, so you can have your TOC ordered the same way as your folders, but don't name them the same as your folder names.

Okay thanks. I can see now that we need to customise our TOC.
