empty page in topics
Quick question for everyone.
I have empty pages in my .htm files (probably from the text editing process) and now I cannot figure out how to delete them. When I do a PDF build, they show up.
Any ideas?

Uh, why can't you just delete the topic files that are blank?

The topic files are not blank. Say a file has 2 pages. The first page is what I want, there is just an extra second page. I tried to click the top of the second page and click backspace, but it doesn't delete.

Your page layout must have an empty page option in it. If you don't have an empty page in the layout — or if you do and you told it to not have an empty page when you set the chapter break — then you shouldn't see an empty page in print output.

I do have an empty page in the page layout, but have not set it in chapter breaks for anything.

Re: empty page in topics
The default behavior is to include the empty page when that chapter ends on a right page. So if your page layout includes an empty page, then you'd have to explicitly tell the appropriate chapter to not end on the empty page.

Re: empty page in topics
That would make sense. I have mirrored pages and will have to look and see what page they end on. Makes sense as to why some show and some do not.
Thanks again,

Still on the topic of empty pages. I have left end enabled, but the blank pages show up in my PDF output as new topics, and my TOC shows a blank topic with a page number. Is there a way to stop this?

Sure there's not an errant, empty H1 tag at the end of the previous topic?

Nope. I have empty pages when the text ends on the right page. That's how I want it to be. I just do not know why when there is an empty page at the end of a topic, it shows up as _gen_ in the PDF output as a new topic.

Re: empty page in topics
I forget exactly how (it's been a while) but there is a way to tell Flare to automatically start new sections on the right page (maybe topics too, I don't remember). This means you don't have to add empty pages to the topics themselves: the empty pages should be generated automatically if you set your output up to do it.
Or am I misreading what you're doing?

Re: empty page in topics
I think you may be misreading a big. I have not added any empty pages from my page layout.
In the TOC, where you go to tell the program what page layout to use, there is a menu that says "Auto-end on 'left' page, where you either enable or disable. I have it enabled so that my topics end on the left page. This is exactly how I want it and how it is working.
The issue is that when there is a blank page inserted like this, the PDF output shows the blank page as a topic with not h1, so it reads as _gen_.
I want the page in the document, just not in the TOC.
Any ideas?

Gotcha. That's starting to sound like a bug. I'd report it:

Thanks Kevin,
I submitted a bug request. I'm still at this and never know if it's a true bug or if I just screwed something up (again). Thanks for all the help.

Re: empty page in topics
The _gen_ appears if there's an empty <h1></h1> tag set in a topic (might happen with other heading tags, but the h1 tag set is the one most people report). Doesn't have to be the top or end of the topic, just somewhere in the topic. If you click on the _gen_ link in the PDF output then it'll jump to the trouble spot and you'll be able to narrow down which topic has the empty tags in it.

Re: empty page in topics
I already tried that before. When I click the _gen_ it jumps to the extra page put in because I want my topics to all start on the right page. There are no empty <h1> fields.

Re: empty page in topics
In the PDF target, on the Printed Output tab, do you have the "Inject headings for unlinked books in TOC" enabled, and if so, do you have unlinked books in the TOC? I've never used that feature myself, but maybe it's part of the problem.
