Clear your user account's Temp folder

Post by forfear »

The files in the following locations sometimes need to be emptied.

[Windows Vista]
C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\Temp

Windows XP
C:\Documents and settings\[user]\AppData\Local\Temp

Everytime you preview a topic in Flare, a small cache of images will eventually gradually build up in these folders. If you've never done it, you should take a look. If you have been building 300 or 1000 topic projects, you must take a look.

Disk space may be cheap but small orphaned, unused files are stuff that most people can do without.
If you submit your bug feedback request here, the more likely it'll get fixed or included in a future release

Just an addenda: the path for XP systems isn't quite as described above. It's:

c:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Temp

Also, there is c:\windows\temp
Until next time....

An additional addendum... Those folders (or some of them) are hidden system folders, so you have to turn on the option to display hidden folders in order to see them. You can do that in the Folder Options screen (for XP, don't know the corresponding screen in Vista).

Cleaning those out should be routine maintenance, same applies for the folders with the temp files for IE and once in a while the contents of the prefetch folder in the Windows folder. Speaking of which, the Windows folder has a temp folder as well, which gets used by some applications and installers once in a while. Keep in mind that the cleanup tool from Windows (if it is available) does not clean most of these temp file storage places and does optimize the content of the prefetch folder. Deleting those files will keep a system leaner over time...if that is even possible with Windows.
