Flare v9.12 crashes again - working with tables (1000/1026)

Post by sdcinvan »

Hello all,

I am attempting to create a technical specification sheet, which includes a lot of separate tables, colors, and a few images. It seems that I may have stumbled on to a problem with Flare. Since working on this page, I am experiencing a large number of fatal crashes whenever I am copy/pasting or drag/dropping content within cells (or just trying to grab the text within the cells), or resizing the cells within a table. I cannot precisely pinpoint/remember the exact task that I am doing but every crash occurs while doing something within the tables.

One consistency is that it is the same two error reports each time. Error code 1000 (KERNELBASE.dll) and 1026 (.NET Runtime).

From Windows Logs (the most recent crash):

Code: Select all

Another CRASH!

I am experiencing about one crash every 15 changes. This time the crash occurred immediately after switching from the Text view back to the XML view. This problem is really beginning to concern and disturb me. :x

The only solution I have is to do the HTML editing in NotePad ++... at least, that way I don't have to switch between Flare editor modes and hopefully avoid about 1/3 of the crashes.

The only problem (and it's a big one) is if I saved change(s), in NotePad ++, contain an error... then Flare may crash because of the error.

Getting frustrated :x

Even the act of saving the edit in NotePad ++ causes Flare to crash. When the NotePad ++ HTML is saved, Flare's XML viewing/edit screen flashes momentarily to refresh the screen. At the moment of the refresh, Flare crashes. So far, this happened twice in the past 40 minutes (or about every 15 saves).

Same two error messages!

I think you'll need to call Tech Support for this one, it sounds pretty specific. Good luck, and empathy with your frustration.
Started as a newbie with Flare 6.1, now using Flare 2023.

Another crash, different document BUT same sequence of errors; namely: 1026, 1000, and 1001.

I was manually resizing an image. But I suspect the real cause was that I was previously switching between the Text and the XML editor many times throughout the day (Flare has been in use for over 6 hours). My guess is that Flare has a memory leak(s). I need to start monitoring its memory usage to see if I can detect a clue.

This is getting tedious and MadCap support hasn't been very helpful!
