Erroneous copies of topics in the wrong folder

Post by kearnine »

Working in Flare for two different companies, I have noticed a very disconcerting behavior that occurs time to time: someone on the team discovers that copies of several topics have shown up for no apparent reason in the wrong folder. We check carefully to make sure that they are identical to the original versions in the correct folders and then delete the ones in the wrong folder. Of course, this takes time and makes everyone very uneasy.

Has anyone else noticed this? Do you know what causes it and how to avoid it?

(At the first company I worked for, we were not using source control. In the one where I work now, we are using Git. Same exact problem, so it seems like that is not part of the problem.)

Thanks in advance for any help on this!

Well, firstly I wouldn't assume source control isn't the problem - you don't know the cause of the either problem, so you can't assume it's caused by the same thing.

I'd check:
  • Source control.
  • Any type of import file in Project Organizer / Project / Imports.
  • Any synchronization, set up using Project > Synchronize Files.
  • Any file synchronization or backup utility, like OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox.

Are you working remotely?

Thank you, Dave. I will investigate those things.

Steve, we are still working remotely, but I have noticed this problem at both companies, both in-office every day and—at the current company—remote since March 2020.
