Ghost Script

Post by djMartens »

Is it still a requirement to have GhostScript in order to produce PDFs?

You don't need Ghostscript to generate PDFs - it's only required for EPS images (and I think if you want to display SVG images in the editor).

Just a couple of notes on this in case folks stumble across it:

* Newer versions of Flare's system requirements MENTION Ghostscript but DON'T LINK TO the downloads page as they did in the version Dave sited in this thread. Go here: https://ghostscript.com/download/gsdnld.html. You likely can use the AGPL license, but that is not for me to say.

* Ghostscript is required for rendering both .eps images and PDF images (not the same as rendering images in a PDF, rather this is literally a PDF file as an image format).

* A JDK or JRE are required to render .svg files in the editor as well as, I think, in the PDF outputs. See this vague page: https://www.madcapsoftware.com/downloads/java.aspx.

An important note on EPS files - this doesn't work with the most recent version of Ghostscript. The supported version seems to be 9.53.3. You can download it from here: https://github.com/ArtifexSoftware/ghos ... tag/gs9533, and the file you want is gs9533w64.exe

Update on GhostScript - version 10.0 seems to work again.
