How to clear old project names in start new project wizard?

Post by Rene Severens »

Hi,

When opened the Start New Project Wizard, after creating a lot of test projects, I would like to clear this list so I am not confronted with all the old and not used proejct names.
How can that be done?

Thanks for the correct solution!

Hi,

This is an intermediate message to active the previous message so it shows up, i hope, in the list of active topics.
I have no idea why this topic now is listed in a category and has more replies than actually is the case, nor the high number of views.
However, the question still stands.

Greetings,

Rene, if I understand you correctly, you are looking for the "Manage Recent Projects" feature, which gives you control over the projects that are listed on Flare's Start page

Assuming that you are now using Flare 9 and the ribbon interface, open the File menu. Near the bottom right corner under "Files" you'll see "Manage Recent Projects." (If you use the tool strip interface, it'll be under File > Recent Projects > Manage Recent Projects.) That will open the Recent Projects window, from which you can remove all items or can remove selected items.

Hi, Nita,

I am using Flare 9, but also Flare 8 and inside Flare 8 there is the same issue.
I already cleared those lists.
The list I mean is this one:

How do I clear this list?

My guess is those entries are stored somewhere in the registry. If you are familiar with editing the registry then do a search. If you find something, make a backup of the registry first and then edit it. Other than that I wouldn't know either and your best chance of fixing the issue is asking MadCap support.

*NOTE* Always back up your registry before making any changes. Always verify you are in the correct location.

The key to that contains the recent project list:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MadCap Software\Flare\DialogSettings\B3.CatapultGettingStartedKit.NewProjectStartDialogPage version.1\Values_sync_attribute_Name

Hi,

Thanks! I will use the regkey option to clear the list.

In Flare 2018, the list of recently-opened projects is stored in:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MadCap Software\Flare\CatapultMdiEditor\RecentProjects

The list is in reverse order, with the most-recently opened item having the highest number. The last item in the list shows the total count of recently-opened projects recorded by the registry keys shown (starting with number 0).
So the most-recently opened project will have the highest number in the list.
Note that duplicate items in the list are not shown in the Flare UI.

To edit the list:
1. Delete the smallest-numbered items (the oldest ones) until the list has just the items you want Flare to display in the UI.
2. For the remaining items, Rename them to have the number sequence 0, 1, 2, 3...
3. Edit the Length key to have a value equal to the total number of items in your list.

Of course, an easier way that's now available is the Flare UI itself :D
Just click File on the menu, and then, in the lower-right corner of the dialog box that appears, click Manage Recent Projects.
