Dave, this is awesome.
If it helps anyone, I put together some instructions to get similar functionality in Google Chrome. Unlike Dave's plugins, the method below displays results from the forum instead of Google. However, you can replace the URL from step 3.3 below with one of the strings from Dave's search plugins to get Google site search results. For example:
Code: Select all
http://www.google.com/search?q=site:http://forums.madcapsoftware.com %s
- Right-click inside the omnibar (where you type URLs and searches) and select Edit search engines...
- Scroll to the bottom of the Other search engines frame where you see empty fields to add your own
- Fill out the fields like so:
- Add new search engine: MadCap Forums
- Keyword: MadCap
- URL with %s in place of query:
Code: Select all
http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/search.php?keywords=%s&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sr=topics&sk=t&sd=d&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search

Tab out of the third field and click Done on the window[/*]

To use the search, type Madcap into your omnibar, then hit tab. The omnibar will show Search Madcap Forums inside a blue box and you can type your search query for the forums and press ENTER to search.[/*]
NOTES:
The keyword from step 3.2 can be anything you want. This is just the word you must type in the omnibox before you press tab to enable the forum search.
The URL from step 3.3 can be customized based on the Advanced search options. To build the search you want to use, go to the forums and:
- Click Advanced search
- Enter the word TEST into the Search for keywords field
- Set the SEARCH OPTIONS to your liking
- Click Search
- Copy the URL that results from your search
- Use the URL you copied here instead of the URL from step 3.3 above, but replace the word TEST with %s, which is how Google Chrome knows where to place the keyword from your search into the query
The search I provided above in 3.3 defaults to showing results as topics because I think showing them as individual posts is awful.
