Topic file name not appearing when I use [system.title]

Post by BupeSonekaCarbolite »

I have a range of topics in a TOC and i would like for the file name of the topic to appear in the footer. when i have a heading on the page the variable converts to the top level heading instead of staying as the topic file name.

With a heading 1: 1.0 Symbols and warning
Variable appears as: Symbols and Warnings

without a heading
Variable appears as: 0120_Light_solv_vfan_exfan_s&c (which is the file name)

any suggestions to get the topic file name to appear and ignore the heading?

Hello BupeSonekaCarbolite.

I'll preface my response by stating I'm not entirely sure what you are wanting to do. Given the thread title "Topic file name not appearing when I use [system.title]", at face value it would appear Flare is behaving correctly.

In the case of the TOC, if you want the file name to appear as the label within the TOC, you would use the System.LinkedFile variable.

In the case of displaying the file name within the topic itself, you would use the System.SourceFile variable.

Hope that helps or at least points you in the right direction :)

Thank you very much.

sort of the answer i was looking for.

I had to change the variable in the title dialogue box by going in the file list.

I also changed added a tag to prevent this variable appearing elsewhere.

- in de folder Variables, I doesnot see System so i can not added a variable.

LinkedFile, LinkedHeader and LinkedTitle can only be used in a TOC.
You can't insert them in a topic.

Thanks Dave and Choccie, it is clear.
I want to show the filename in our internal website/output.
- These files can be downloaded, the right file name must be shown.

Now i use Hyperlinks
I want to use by Hyperlink properties *Link Text* the system.LinkedFile name.
- so by changing the filename it is also changed (like Xref Cross-reference) #1
- but now it is not the right filename (when file name is changed) so i have to change it manual #2
