Possibility to automate option "Make paragraph item(s)"

Post by Arla »

Hi.

When creating lists, you can use the option "Make paragraph item(s)" -> Is it possible to make Flare do this by default? I want all my list items to contain a <p> tag by default without using the context menu or shortcut.

Thanks in advance

Hi, and welcome to the forums.

I don't know of any way to do this, but I'm sure if it can be done, someone on here will know how!

Just out of curiosity, why do you want this to be the case? If you sometimes have lists with just single lines and sometimes have lists with more than one, you could look at creating a complex selector "li p" to change the format of a p inside a li so that it matches a regular li. That way you can have both li with a p inside or just a li, and they'll look the same.

Hi and thanks for the quick answer.
This is a requirement from our template department. I'm not very familiar with the template (as I'm new in the company). As far as I know, they want a p tag inside every list item to better handle line and page breaks in the PDF output.

That can easily be done by doing as I've described, so perhaps push my reply back to the template department and see what they can do with the stylesheet. I've worked like that for years and haven't had a problem with having a mix of li with a p inside and just plain li.

However, I'm pretty sure there's a way to make every list item that you create have a p inside it, I just can't remember how! I seem to remember reading about it in the last couple of days in the Flare documentation, so I'll have another dig and will post again if I can find it, if someone doesn't beat me to it.

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for or if it may be of any help but this article from the Madcap blog briefly talks about nesting paragraphs in lists.

Hi smajors, thanks for the link but that's not quite the answer I was looking for. It's more about automatically adding a p tag inside every list item as soon as it is created. Maybe I have overread it in your article but I couldn't find it.
In the meantime we will try to convince the rest of the team to just change the stylesheet and try to ask some guys at MadWorld Europe.
Thx a lot for your help (if anyone finds a solution, just add it)

I will keep you updated
