Insert a special character

Post by JimLeft »

I am trying to insert the divide-by math symbol instead of using the "/" character in a table cell. I added the character (List icon > Custom Format > Create Custom Format, clicked the special character icon), but when inserting it, the message: "At this time, custom list formats are supported only in PDF, XHTML, and XPS outputs. After browsers begin to support the CSS3 marker element that makes custom list formats possible..., you should use the standard method for creating lists instead." displays.

Why does Flare care what a browser does? I think browsers do support custom list formats, correct?
What is the successful way to get the divide-by symbol in a topic table?

Are you trying to use that character as the bullet for a list, or are you just trying to include it somewhere in your text? If the second, then you're making it more difficult than you need.

This character ÷ can be input as Alt + 0247.

I may have completely misunderstood, so if so, I apologise.

ChoccieMuffin's suggestion is most likely what you want. :)

But for background, the message is referring to the css ::marker pseudo-element, used solely for text formatted as a list (roughly speaking). This isn't yet supported by any browsers, so can't be displayed.

You can read the details on the MDN site and the browser support table is at the bottom of the page:
