Output file used as a source/original .htm topic?

Post by SDWriterClmt »

Win10 running Flare 2018 and 2018 r2:

I had a disastrous thing happen to me this morning. I was editing one of my key content files when my machine locked up. Then I got that stupid blue screen. Then it rebooted. After relaunching Flare it would not open my file. Said it wasn't an XML file, asked me if I wanted to convert. Said yes, but got an error message. My file is hopelessly corrupted it seems. Can't even see anything when opening it in Notepad.

ANYWAY... my question is, can my 'built' content files in my most recent Output folder be used as backups? And if it can't just be copied into my project and used, what could I do to make one into a usable file, pre-built state?

The short answer is, no you can't use the build file as a backup. You could, however, use it to reconstruct the original file if you have a good understanding of how Flare elements are built out. If it's just a topic with some text, it would be pretty easy. The more dropdowns, images, etc. you have the harder it is.

This is a great use case for having source control!
