MadCap Flare 2020: The Definitive Guide now available!

Postby scott on Tue May 26, 2020 2:04 pm

Hi everyone!
I'm pleased to announce the new edition of my book: MadCap Flare 2020: The Definitive Guide.

This 520-page book covers Flare 2020's new features, including:
* Confluence import
* expand/collapse tags in XML Editor
* code snippets with syntax highlighting
* micro content enhancements
* HTML5 publishing directly to Central
* ServiceNow publishing
* find and replace elements
* accessibility enhancements

It also includes:
* numerous tips and tricks
* a list of top 10 "gotchas" when converting to Flare from RoboHelp and FrameMaker
* steps for converting from Author-It and Doc-to-Help
* keyboard shortcut references by task and by key
* a guide to Flare file extensions
* a quick task index

You can use the book as a study guide for the Certified MAD test, and it includes over 40 practice questions (with answers). It's not a replacement for the Flare training classes, of course. I wrote it to complement the classes and to serve as both an introduction to Flare for new users and as a quick reference for experienced users.

You can check it out at https://www.lulu.com/en/us/shop/scott-d ... j4p9j.html

In case you're wondering, it was written in Flare. 8)

Hi Scott, can you tell me how much information the book contains about downloading content from Confluence? My documentation group does a lot of this and we're looking for ways to make it easier and more efficient.

Hi,
The book covers how to import Confluence content into a new or existing project. It also describes how various types of content are converted to Flare. For example, notes, tips, and warnings covert to divs.

My advice is to enable the Import Linked Pages and Import Resources options and to experiment with the Remove Inline Formatting and Remove Style Classes options. You will most likely want to keep inline formatting and style classes, but it depends on your content. Once you import, you can use Flare's Analysis reports to cleanup the inline formatting and merge/simplify your style classes.
