Questions RE: Field Level Help

Post by EricS »

Have seen a few post on field level help and came across this post in one of the threads: https://www.madcapsoftware.com/blog/usi ... ent-106571

It's great and has much of the info I am looking for.

Two questions - is it possible to set up the field level help pop-up window to:

1. Automatically open when user clicks inside the field?

and

2. Rather than a pop-up, can if be configured to open a pane on the right of the screen as opposed to a new window?

Thanks,
Eric S.

First thing to note is that blog post is 9 years old, and is talking about the WebHelp output which is going to be removed from Flare (it's on their "deprecated" feature list).

You can do 1 and 2, but you need to go and speak to your developers, and work with them on integrating the help with your application. We don't know anything about your application.

Show them this topic on how to make CSH calls to Flare's HTML5 help: https://help.madcapsoftware.com/flare20 ... lopers.htm
I'd suggest looking at the URL method - not the javascript method.

You can build a HTML5 target that is skinless (skin set to None) and has no menu navigation controls - if that's what you want.

For 2 - If it's a web app, you could display the help in its own iframe, in a pane alongside your web app. If it's a Windows application, the help can be displayed inside a Windows browser control.
