MadCap Not responding over VPN

Post by Patt »

I'm working from home and need to VPN in to access the network. This does tend to slow things down a bit but I'm able to access everything I need except MapCap.
I can open a project, sort of. The explorer displays but not the text editor. And then MadCap stops responding. I don't any error message, it just doesn't respond.
I saw an earlier thread with issues accessing MadCap using VPN but that person was getting an error message and I'm not.
Any ideas on where I can start troubleshooting this?

Thanks,

Are you running Flare locally and accessing files over the VPN or are you using some form of remote desktop with Flare running "back at the office?"

You may need to allow your vpn or Firewall to connect to register.madcapsoftware.com Port 80.

Thanks for your responses. I'm running Flare locally. I'll check into allowing the VPN to connect to register.madcapsoftware.

I've always handled VPN for Flare (and RoboHelp before it) by using Remote Desktop to connect to my work PC. That way, only the user interface interaction is flakey (and usually, the UI interaction is just fine); I take no chance of introducing corruption or any other problem into my project by trying to work on it remotely, where huge latency jumps and other connection issues may cause problems.

Just my humble opinion, however; I certainly see the attaction in using a local version of Flare.
