Random text in callouts

Hi all,
I need to insert callouts with text to images in Capture. What I want is something like this:

What I get is this:

This happens with every container with text (callouts, bubbles, text boxes...), every time I press F2. Every time I need to select all (CTRL+A), retype the text I want, select it all again, and reformat it (color, size, font, etc.).
Then I have to pray it doesn't revert back to unformatted gibberish all by itself.

I sent a bug report. Got a laconic reply a week later with totally useless information (did you restart? did you reinstall Capture? Well duh! Of course I did!)

Has anybody encountered this behavior before? Does anyone know of a solution?
I'd just use Snagit but I have variables in the callouts and they get translated too, so that's not an option.

Any solution for this? I have the same issue.
